Aerodynamics of Guided and Unguided Weapons

Aerodynamics of Guided and Unguided Weapons PDF Author: Frankie Gale Moore

Category : Guided missiles
Languages : en
Pages : 218

Book Description
Several theoretical and empirical procedures are combined into a single computer program to predict lift, drag, and center of pressure on quite general wing-body geometries. The method is applicable for Mach number zero to three and angle-of-attack zero to about fifteen degrees. Computed results for several configurations compare well with experimental and other analytical results. It costs about five dollars per Mach number to compute the static aerodynamics of a typical wing-body shape on the CDC 6700 computer.

Missile Aerodynamics

Missile Aerodynamics PDF Author: ADVISORY GROUP FOR AEROSPACE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT NEUILLY-SUR-SEINE (France)
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 389

Book Description
The differences in flight conditions and geometric configurations between aircraft and missiles mean that aerodynamic techniques for missile applications frequently differ from those used for aircraft. This lecture series aimed to emphasize these differences in the aerodynamic design features of both guided and unguided weapons. In addition to treating the component parts of the weapons themselves (e.g., wings, bodies, controls, propulsion units) and particular aspects of complete weapons (e.g., kinetic heating, high incidence effects), the course also dealt with the effects of air-breathing engines on the aerodynamics and vice versa, the interactions between aircraft and the weapons they carry, stores separation, and model test techniques.

Pages : 308

Book Description
Over the past half century, guided weapons have developed faster than any other form of weapon system, and they now exert a major influence on international politics, strategy, and tactics. Guided Weapons explains the technology and development of such systems and their use on the battlefield against armored vehicles, ground targets, and aircraft. This new edition has been fully revised and updated to include all recent advances in the field, with particular emphasis on fiber-optic guidance.

Computational Aerodynamics at Weapons Systems Research Laboratory

Computational Aerodynamics at Weapons Systems Research Laboratory PDF Author: L. M. Sheppard
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780642886590
Category : Aerodynamics
Languages : en
Pages : 6

Book Description
A review is given of the computer-related aerodynamic research carried out at Weapons Systems Research Laboratory over the past twenty years or so. During this period, three main digital computers have been in use, namely WREDAC, IBM 7090 and IBM 370. A notable peak in research activity occurred during 1975 to 1978 when the task Fluid Dynamics - Computing was in existence and the IBM 370 computer was available. This task has since been terminated. Potential applications of computational aerodynamics at Weapons Systems Research Laboratory extend to unguided bombs, bomblets, bullets, mortars, rockets and shells, as well as terminally corrected precision-guided weapons, gliding munitions, guided missiles, release of external stores from aircraft and carriage of external stores on aircraft.
