Source and Channel Coding

Source and Channel Coding PDF Author: John B. Anderson
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461539986
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 438

Book Description
oW should coded communication be approached? Is it about prob H ability theorems and bounds, or about algorithms and structures? The traditional course in information theory and coding teaches these together in one course in which the Shannon theory, a probabilistic the ory of information, dominates. The theory's predictions and bounds to performance are valuable to the coding engineer, but coding today is mostly about structures and algorithms and their size, speed and error performance. While coding has a theoretical basis, it has a practical side as well, an engineering side in which costs and benefits matter. It is safe to say that most of the recent advances in information theory and coding are in the engineering of coding. These thoughts motivate the present text book: A coded communication book based on methods and algorithms, with information theory in a necessary but supporting role. There has been muchrecent progress in coding, both inthe theory and the practice, and these pages report many new advances. Chapter 2 cov ers traditional source coding, but also the coding ofreal one-dimensional sources like speech and new techniques like vector quantization. Chapter 4 is a unified treatment of trellis codes, beginning with binary convolu tional codes and passing to the new trellis modulation codes.

Advanced R

Advanced R PDF Author: Hadley Wickham
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1498759807
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 669

Book Description
An Essential Reference for Intermediate and Advanced R Programmers Advanced R presents useful tools and techniques for attacking many types of R programming problems, helping you avoid mistakes and dead ends. With more than ten years of experience programming in R, the author illustrates the elegance, beauty, and flexibility at the heart of R. The book develops the necessary skills to produce quality code that can be used in a variety of circumstances. You will learn: The fundamentals of R, including standard data types and functions Functional programming as a useful framework for solving wide classes of problems The positives and negatives of metaprogramming How to write fast, memory-efficient code This book not only helps current R users become R programmers but also shows existing programmers what’s special about R. Intermediate R programmers can dive deeper into R and learn new strategies for solving diverse problems while programmers from other languages can learn the details of R and understand why R works the way it does.

As such, it will be a valuable text for students at both undergraduate and graduate levels as well as instructors, researchers, engineers, and practitioners in these fields.Supporting Powerpoint Slides are available upon request for all instructors who adopt this book as a course text.

Advanced IT Tools

Advanced IT Tools PDF Author: Nobuyoshi Terashima
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 0387349790
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 553

Book Description
TRACK 1: Innovative Applications in the Public Sector The integration of multimedia based applications and the information superhighway fundamentally concerns the creation of a communication technology to support the ac tivities of people. Communication is a profoundly social activity involving interactions among groups or individuals, common standards of exchange, and national infrastruc tures to support telecommunications activities. The contributions of the invited speakers and others in this track begin to explore the social dimension of communication within the context of integrated, information systems for the public sector. Interactions among businesses and households are described by Ralf Strauss through the development within a real community of a "wired city" with information and electronic services provided by the latest telecommunications technologies. A more specific type of interaction between teacher and student forms the basis of education. John Tiffin demonstrates how virtual classrooms can be used to augment the educational process. Carl Loeffler presents yet another perspective on interaction through the integration of A-life and agent technologies to investigate the dynamics of complex behaviors within networked simulation environments. Common standards for communication in the form of electronic documents or CSCW (Computer Supported Cooperative Work), according to Roland Traunmiiller, provide en abling technologies for a paradigm shift in the management of organizations. As pointed out by William Olle, the impact of standardization work on the future of information technology depends critically upon the interoperability of software systems.

Learning Advanced Python by Studying Open Source Projects

Learning Advanced Python by Studying Open Source Projects PDF Author: Rongpeng Li
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1000993000
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 152

Book Description
This book is one of its own kind. It is not an encyclopedia or a hands-on tutorial that traps readers in the tutorial hell. It is a distillation of just one common Python user’s learning experience. The experience is packaged with exceptional teaching techniques, careful dependence unraveling and, most importantly, passion. Learning Advanced Python by Studying Open Source Projects helps readers overcome the difficulty in their day-to-day tasks and seek insights from solutions in famous open source projects. Different from a technical manual, this book mixes the technical knowledge, real-world applications and more theoretical content, providing readers with a practical and engaging approach to learning Python. Throughout this book, readers will learn how to write Python code that is efficient, readable and maintainable, covering key topics such as data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming and more. The author’s passion for Python shines through in this book, making it an enjoyable and inspiring read for both beginners and experienced programmers.
