Book Description
Over the past 40 years, RIS models for hundreds of polymer structures have been developed, and now the RIS approach is available in several software packages. However, users are often faced with the time-consuming task of finding the appropriate RIS parameters among the literature. This book facilitates this task by providing a comprehensive overview of the models available. It reviews the literature from the very first applications to the end of 1994, comprises synthetic as well as naturally occuring macromolecules, and tabulates all the pertinent features of published models. It will thus help readers, even those new to this method, to take advantage of this computationally efficient way of assessing the conformational properties of macromolecular systems.

New Developments in Polymer Analytics II

New Developments in Polymer Analytics II PDF Author: Manfred Schmidt
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 354066078X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 198

Book Description
The two companion volumes of Advances in Polymer Science - Volumes 150 and 151 - deal with recent progress in the characterization of polymers, mostly in solution but also at surfaces. The contributions comprise multidimensional chromatography for elucidation, the composition and the chain length distribution of copolymers, capillary electrophoresis of synthetic water-soluble polymers including polyelectrolytes, field flow fractionation techniques for quick and reliable separation and characterization of broad polymer samples and a novel application of thermal grating experiments for probing Brownian and thermal diffusion. Finally the rapid development of atomic forces techniques is reviewed with particular emphasis on the visualization of macromolecules and the patterning of surfaces.

Book Description
Over the past four decades polymers containing imide groups (usually as build ing blocks of the polymer backbone) have attracted increasing interest of sci entists engaged in fundamental research as well as that of companies looking into their application and commercialization. This situation will apparently continue in the future and justifies that from time to time reviews be published which sum up the current state of knowledge in this field. Imide groups may impart a variety of useful properties to pol~'mers, e. g. , thermal stability chain stiffness, crystallinity, mesogenic properties, photoreactivity etc. These lead to a broad variety of potential applications. This broad and somewhat heteroge neous field is difficult to cover in one single review or monograph. A rather com prehensive monograph was edited four years ago by K. Mittal, mainly concen trating on procedures and properties of technical interest. Most reviews presented in this volume of Advances in Polymer Science focus on fundamen tal research and touch topics not intensively discussed in the monograph by K. Mittal. Therefore, the editor of this work hopes that the reader will appreci ate finding complementary information. Finally I wish to thank all the contributors who made this work possible and I would like to thank Dr. Gert Schwarz for the revision of the manuscripts of the contributions 3 and 4. Inorganic Polymers

Inorganic Polymers PDF Author: James E. Mark
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0195351312
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 353

Book Description
Polymer chemistry and technology form one of the major areas of molecular and materials science. This field impinges on nearly every aspect of modern life, from electronics technology, to medicine, to the wide range of fibers, films, elastomers, and structural materials on which everyone depends. Although most of these polymers are organic materials, attention is being focused increasingly toward polymers that contain inorganic elements as well as organic components. The goal of Inorganic Polymers is to provide a broad overview of inorganic polymers in a way that will be useful to both the uninitiated and those already working in this field. There are numerous reasons for being interested in inorganic polymers. One is the simple need to know how structure affects the properties of a polymer, particularly outside the well-plowed area of organic materials. Another is the bridge that inorganic polymers provide between polymer science and ceramics. More and more chemistry is being used in the preparation of ceramics of carefully controlled structure, and inorganic polymers are increasingly important precursor materials in such approaches. This new edition begins with a brief introductory chapter. That is followed with a discussion of the characteristics and characterization of polymers, with examples taken from the field. Other chapters in the book detail the synthesis, reaction chemistry, molecular structure, and uses of polyphosphazenes, polysiloxanes, and polysilanes. The coverage in the second edition has been updated and expanded significantly to cover advances and interesting trends since the first edition appeared. Three new chapters have been added, focusing on ferrocene-based polymers, other phosphorous-containing polymers, and boron-containing polymers; inorganic-organic hybrid composites; and preceramic inorganic polymers.
