Book Description
We present an improved and enlarged version of our book Nonlinear - namics of Chaotic and Stochastic Systems published by Springer in 2002. Basically, the new edition of the book corresponds to its ?rst version. While preparingthiseditionwemadesomeclari?cationsinseveralsectionsandalso corrected the misprints noticed in some formulas. Besides, three new sections have been added to Chapter 2. They are “Statistical Properties of Dynamical Chaos,” “E?ects of Synchronization in Extended Self-Sustained Oscillatory Systems,” and “Synchronization in Living Systems.” The sections indicated re?ect the most interesting results obtained by the authors after publication of the ?rst edition. We hope that the new edition of the book will be of great interest for a widesectionofreaderswhoarealreadyspecialistsorthosewhoarebeginning research in the ?elds of nonlinear oscillation and wave theory, dynamical chaos, synchronization, and stochastic process theory. Schimansky-Geier Preface to the First Edition Thisbookisdevotedtotheclassicalbackgroundandtocontemporaryresults on nonlinear dynamics of deterministic and stochastic systems. Considerable attentionisgiventothee?ectsofnoiseonvariousregimesofdynamicsystems with noise-induced order. On the one hand, there exists a rich literature of excellent books on n- linear dynamics and chaos; on the other hand, there are many marvelous monographs and textbooks on the statistical physics of far-from-equilibrium andstochasticprocesses.Thisbookisanattempttocombinetheapproachof nonlinear dynamics based on the deterministic evolution equations with the approach of statistical physics based on stochastic or kinetic equations. One of our main aims is to show the important role of noise in the organization and properties of dynamic regimes of nonlinear dissipative systems.

Dynamics Reported

Dynamics Reported PDF Author:
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642612326
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 243

Book Description
DYNAMICS REPORTED reports on recent developments in dynamical systems. Dynamical systems of course originated from ordinary differential equations. Today, dynamical systems cover a much larger area, including dynamical pro cesses described by functional and integral equations, by partial and stochastic differential equations, etc. Dynamical systems have involved remarkably in recent years. A wealth of new phenomena, new ideas and new techniques are proving to be of considerable interest to scientists in rather different fields. It is not surprising that thousands of publications on the theory itself and on its various applications are appearing. DYNAMICS REPORTED presents carefully written articles on major sub jects in dynamical systems and their applications, addressed not only to special ists but also to a broader range of readers including graduate students. Topics are advanced, while detailed exposition of ideas, restriction to typical result- rather than the most general ones - and, last but not least, lucid proofs help to gain the utmost degree of clarity. It is hoped, that DYNAMICS REPORTED will be useful for those enter ing the field and will stimulate an exchange of ideas among those working in dynamical systems.

Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos

Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos PDF Author: Steven H. Strogatz
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 0429961111
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 532

Book Description
This textbook is aimed at newcomers to nonlinear dynamics and chaos, especially students taking a first course in the subject. The presentation stresses analytical methods, concrete examples, and geometric intuition. The theory is developed systematically, starting with first-order differential equations and their bifurcations, followed by phase plane analysis, limit cycles and their bifurcations, and culminating with the Lorenz equations, chaos, iterated maps, period doubling, renormalization, fractals, and strange attractors.

Analysis and Data-Based Reconstruction of Complex Nonlinear Dynamical Systems

Analysis and Data-Based Reconstruction of Complex Nonlinear Dynamical Systems PDF Author: M. Reza Rahimi Tabar
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3030184722
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 290

Book Description
This book focuses on a central question in the field of complex systems: Given a fluctuating (in time or space), uni- or multi-variant sequentially measured set of experimental data (even noisy data), how should one analyse non-parametrically the data, assess underlying trends, uncover characteristics of the fluctuations (including diffusion and jump contributions), and construct a stochastic evolution equation? Here, the term "non-parametrically" exemplifies that all the functions and parameters of the constructed stochastic evolution equation can be determined directly from the measured data. The book provides an overview of methods that have been developed for the analysis of fluctuating time series and of spatially disordered structures. Thanks to its feasibility and simplicity, it has been successfully applied to fluctuating time series and spatially disordered structures of complex systems studied in scientific fields such as physics, astrophysics, meteorology, earth science, engineering, finance, medicine and the neurosciences, and has led to a number of important results. The book also includes the numerical and analytical approaches to the analyses of complex time series that are most common in the physical and natural sciences. Further, it is self-contained and readily accessible to students, scientists, and researchers who are familiar with traditional methods of mathematics, such as ordinary, and partial differential equations. The codes for analysing continuous time series are available in an R package developed by the research group Turbulence, Wind energy and Stochastic (TWiSt) at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Joachim Peinke. This package makes it possible to extract the (stochastic) evolution equation underlying a set of data or measurements.

Bibliography on Chaos

Bibliography on Chaos PDF Author: Shu-yu Zhang
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9789810205812
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 536

Book Description
This volume is a collection of more than 7000 full titles of books and papers related to chaotic behaviour in nonlinear dynamics. Emphasis has been made on recent publications, but many publications which appeared before 1980 are also included. Many titles have been checked with the authors. The scope of the Bibliography is not restricted to physics and mathematics of chaos only. Applications of chaotic dynamics to other branches of natural and social sciences are also considered. Works related to chaotic dynamics, e.g., papers on turbulence dynamical systems theory and fractal geometry, are listed at the discretion of the author or the compiler. This Bibliography is expected to be an important reference book for libraries and individual researchers.
