Alex finished his high school career by winning the Maryland State Singles title, defeating the no. 3 player in the country in the finals. As a college coach, Officer has won over 450 matches, which is the most wins in the history of navy tennis. He has won ten conference titles, including two in the Colonial Athletic Association and eight in the Patriot League, which is the most of any coach in league history. His seven Patriot League Coach of the Year awards are the most in league history. Coach Officer was voted Intercollegiate Tennis Association Region I Coach of the Year twice. On a national level, he was voted USPTA National Coach of the Year in 1991. Additionally, he spoke to the ITA National Convention on four separate occasions. Coach Officer wrote a philosophy book entitled Discovering Your Passion: The Path of the Spiritual Warrior. He produced ten videos on the game of tennis. He was also prolific in writing articles based on research grants. He completed research grants on US tennis, the Warrior Ethos, Spanish tennis, as well as Scottish tennis. Finally, Coach Officer has developed a system for teaching stroke mechanics entitled Johnny Os Tennis System. His system incorporates seventy-one different shots, which are to be mastered for an aspiring pro tour player.
