Book Description
This report describes two approaches to low Reynolds-number k-epsilon turbulence modeling which formulate the eddy viscosity on the wall-normal component of turbulence and a length scale. The wall-normal component of turbulence is computed via integration of the energy spectrum based on the local dissipation rate and is bounded by the isotropic condition. The models account for the anisotropy of the dissipation and the reduced mixing length due to the high strain rates present in the near-wall region. The turbulent kinetic energy and its dissipation rate were computed from the k and epsilon transport equations of Durbin. The models were tested for a wide range of turbulent flows and proved to be superior to other k-epsilon models, especially for nonequilibrium anisotropic flows. For the prediction of airfoil heat transfer, the models included a set of empirical correlations for predicting laminar-turbulent transition and laminar heat transfer augmentation due to the presence of freestream turbulence. The predictions of surface heat transfer were generally satisfactory. Kwon, Okey and Ames, Forrest E. AERODYNAMIC HEAT TRANSFER; BOUNDARY LAYER FLOW; COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMICS; EDDY VISCOSITY; K-EPSILON TURBULENCE MODEL; LOW REYNOLDS NUMBER; TURBULENCE; TURBULENT FLOW; ANISOTROPY; KINETIC ENERGY; MIXING LENGTH FLOW THEORY; NONEQUILIBRIUM FLOW; TURBINE BLADES; WALL FLOW...

Boundary-Layer Theory PDF Author: Hermann Schlichting (Deceased)
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 366252919X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 814

Book Description
This new edition of the near-legendary textbook by Schlichting and revised by Gersten presents a comprehensive overview of boundary-layer theory and its application to all areas of fluid mechanics, with particular emphasis on the flow past bodies (e.g. aircraft aerodynamics). The new edition features an updated reference list and over 100 additional changes throughout the book, reflecting the latest advances on the subject.

Advances In Numerical Heat Transfer

Advances In Numerical Heat Transfer PDF Author: W. Minkowycz
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9781560324416
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 456

Book Description
This is the first volume in the series. It analyzes several fundamental methodology issues in numerical heat transfer and fluid flow and identifies certain areas of active application. The finite-volume approach is presented with the finite-element methods as well as with energy balance analysis. Applications include the latest development in turbulence modeling and current approaches to inverse problems.

Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Experiments 5

Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Experiments 5 PDF Author: W. Rodi
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 008053094X
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 1029

Book Description
Turbulence is one of the key issues in tackling engineering flow problems. As powerful computers and accurate numerical methods are now available for solving the flow equations, and since engineering applications nearly always involve turbulence effects, the reliability of CFD analysis depends increasingly on the performance of the turbulence models. This series of symposia provides a forum for presenting and discussing new developments in the area of turbulence modelling and measurements, with particular emphasis on engineering-related problems. The papers in this set of proceedings were presented at the 5th International Symposium on Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Measurements in September 2002. They look at a variety of areas, including: Turbulence modelling; Direct and large-eddy simulations; Applications of turbulence models; Experimental studies; Transition; Turbulence control; Aerodynamic flow; Aero-acoustics; Turbomachinery flows; Heat transfer; Combustion systems; Two-phase flows. These papers are preceded by a section containing 6 invited papers covering various aspects of turbulence modelling and simulation as well as their practical application, combustion modelling and particle-image velocimetry.
