Book Description
In general any disease diagnosed clinically should be confirmed by a pathologist. Histopathology is considered as the gold standard technique for diagnosis, but the establishment of molecular structure of a cell had lead to a revolution in the field of diagnostic pathology. By the time the histopathology satisfies the criteria of a particular disease, the biochemical and genetic alterations would have progressed far in advance that requires much of attention. The molecular insight of human genome had lead to better understanding of disease course and appropriate treatment modalities thereby reducing the morbidity and mortality. The advanced molecular techniques have become an integral part of day to day investigative procedures and it is likely that in future, these methods will increasingly become a standard practice in routine diagnosis and management of the patients.

Book Description
The analysis of DNA, RNA and proteins obtained from diagnostic specimens, is currently revolutionizing the practice of surgical pathology and heralds a new era of diagnostic and prognostic tests that will greatly influence our day to day clinical decision making. The diagnosis of cancer and many other diseases is fundamentally based on the microscopic study of cells and tissues. Nevertheless, the era of the pathologist relying entirely on the examination of tissue sections stained by histochemical methods is gradually being replaced by a time when advanced immunologic and molecular techniques augment the process by which complicated infectious, inflammatory, metabolic and neoplastic diseases are diagnosed and classified. The pathologists will continue to play a fundamental role in diagnosis and will likely be in a pivotal position to guide the implementation and interpretation of these tests as they move from the research laboratory into diagnostic pathology. As we move further into a new era, the usefulness and ease of implementation of molecular test

ADVANCE DIAGNOSTIC AIDS IN SCREENING OF ORAL CANCER

ADVANCE DIAGNOSTIC AIDS IN SCREENING OF ORAL CANCER PDF Author: Dr. Anand Choudhary MDS
Publisher: Book Rivers
ISBN: 8194900107
Category : Antiques & Collectibles
Languages : en
Pages : 166

Book Description
Oral cancer is the sixth most common malignancy with almost 500000 new cases reported worldwide annually. The diagnosis of oral cancer at an early stage has a good prognosis as the survival rate is high (around 80%). However, the majority of oral cancer cases are diagnosed at a later stage with a considerably poor 5-year survival rate of 50% according to World Health Organization statistics. Thus, an effective management strategy for oral cancer will depend on its early identification and intervention which would pave the way for superior prognosis. Despite the obvious advantage of earlier diagnosis of oral cancer, no approach has yet proven to be a reliably successful in diagnosis of oral cancer at an early stage. Currently; the primary line of screening of oral cancer is performed by visual inspection, which is a subjective examination. Among the screening tests or diagnostic aids now available for oral cancer, few (toluidine blue, brush biopsy, salivary and serum bio-markers) have been utilised and studied for many years while others have recently become commercially available. The authors in the present book review all the modalities of screening aids used in oral cancer detection and provide an update on the latest screening tools used in oral cancer detection.

Book Description
Oral Pathology as part of the Head and Neck Pathology is an interdisciplinary field of science. The oral mucosa and the saliva are reflectors of many systemic diseases of the organism and therefore valuable parameters of the diagnosis and prognosis of pathological processes. In the last years many new methods have been integrated in the diagnostic repertoire. Proliferation markers are of predicitive value and characterize the biological behavior of a tumor. Markers are such as oncogenes, growth factor receptors or genetic aberrations. The importance of these new markers shall be discussed concerning the different types of oral cancers and salivary gland tumours.
