Computational Methods in Multiphase Flow VIII

Computational Methods in Multiphase Flow VIII PDF Author: P. Vorobieff
Publisher: WIT Press
ISBN: 184564946X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 549

Book Description
This book presents the latest research in one of the most challenging, yet most universally applicable areas of technology. Multiphase flows are found in all areas of technology, at all length scales and flow regimes, involving compressible or incompressible linear or nonlinear fluids. The range of related problems of interest is vast, including astrophysics, biology, geophysics, atmospheric process, and many areas of engineering. The solution of the equations that describe such complex problems often requires a combination of advanced computational and experimental methods. For example, any models developed must be validated through the application of expensive and difficult experimental techniques. Numerous problems in the area thus remain as yet unsolved, including modelling nonlinear fluids, modelling and tracking interfaces, dealing with multiple length scales, characterising phase structures, and treating drop break-up and coalescence. The papers contained in the book were presented at the eighth in a well established series of biennial conferences that began in 2001. They represent close interaction between numerical modellers and other researchers working to gradually resolve the many outstanding issues in understanding of multiphase flow. The papers in the book cover such topics as: Multiphase Flow Simulation; Bubble and Drop Dynamics; Interface Behaviour; Experimental Measurements; Energy Applications; Compressible Flows; Flow in Porous Media; Turbulent Flow; Image Processing; Heat Transfer; Atomization; Hydromagnetics; Plasma; Fluidised Beds; Cavitation.

Mechanics of Underwater Noise

Mechanics of Underwater Noise PDF Author: Donald Ross
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483160467
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 390

Book Description
Mechanics of Underwater Noise elucidates the basic mechanisms by which noise is generated, transmitted by structures and radiated into the sea. Organized into 10 chapters, this book begins with a description of noise, decibels and levels, significance of spectra, and passive sonar equation. Subsequent chapters discuss sound waves in liquids; acoustic radiation fundamentals; wind-generated ocean ambient noise; vibration isolation and structural damping; and radiation by plate flexural vibrations. Other chapters address cavitation, propeller cavitation noise, radiation by fluctuating-force (dipole) sources, and mechanical noise sources. This book will be helpful as a self-education text and as a reference for workers in the field.

Fluid Flow Phenomena In Metals Processing

Fluid Flow Phenomena In Metals Processing PDF Author: Julian Szekely
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 032314957X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 459

Book Description
Fluid Flow Phenomena in Metals Processing outlines the fundamentals of fluid flow theory, emphasizing the potential applications of fluid flow concepts that are illustrated by actual problems drawn from the metallurgical literature. This book is divided into 10 chapters. Chapters 1 to 4 are devoted to the fundamentals of fluid flow, while Chapters 5 to 9 are concerned with the application of basic concepts to specific systems, such as electromagnetically driven flows, surface tension and natural convection driven flows, multiparticle systems, gas bubbles, and impinging jets. The discussion on flow measurements and introduction to physical modeling are provided in the last chapter. This publication is suitable for a one semester graduate level course for metallurgy and chemical engineering students.
