Book Description
Excerpt from Addresses and Speeches on Various Occasions, From 1869 to 1879 Let me only add that in this volume, as in both of those which have preceded it, there has been no attempt to reconstruct what had. Already been composed or uttered, but that, in conformity with the views I have always entertained as to what was due to the truth Of history, every thing has been printed here as it was originally prepared or spoken. Book Description
Excerpt from Addresses and Speeches on Various Occasions, From 1878 to 1886 Another Serial Number of our Proceedings is on our table this morning. It forms the conclusion of a new volume, which, thanks to the unwearied devotion of our Secretary, will soon be forthcoming. There is nothing more interesting in this number, - nor, indeed, in any Of the Serials or Volumes which have preceded it, I think, than the Extracts from the Journal of Thomas Hutchinson, Governor of Massachusetts, containing the record of his conversation with George III., in July, 1774, im mediately on the arrival of Hutchinson in England, after he was superseded in the Government Of Massachusetts by General Gage. We are indebted for this valuable paper to our Honorary Member, the historian bancroft, from whom it came to Mr. Frothingham; and the paper is verified by the Signature of Edward Everett, under whose direction - while he was our Minister at London - the copy was made by his Secretary Of Legation, Mr. Francis R. Rives, in 1843. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Scholarship Reconsidered
Author: Ernest L. Boyer
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1119005868
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 224
Book Description
Shifting faculty roles in a changing landscape Ernest L. Boyer's landmark book Scholarship Reconsidered: Priorities of the Professoriate challenged the publish-or-perish status quo that dominated the academic landscape for generations. His powerful and enduring argument for a new approach to faculty roles and rewards continues to play a significant part of the national conversation on scholarship in the academy. Though steeped in tradition, the role of faculty in the academic world has shifted significantly in recent decades. The rise of the non-tenure-track class of professors is well documented. If the historic rule of promotion and tenure is waning, what role can scholarship play in a fragmented, unbundled academy? Boyer offers a still much-needed approach. He calls for a broadened view of scholarship, audaciously refocusing its gaze from the tenure file and to a wider community. This expanded edition offers, in addition to the original text, a critical introduction that explores the impact of Boyer's views, a call to action for applying Boyer's message to the changing nature of faculty work, and a discussion guide to help readers start a new conversation about how Scholarship Reconsidered applies today.
