Book Description
A stainless steel vapor scrubber was added to the test facility for scrubbing N2H4 vapors. Other minor modifications consisted of the ad ition of gaseous N purge lines, reloca ion of filters, and minor plumbing changes for adapting specific test specimens to the test systems. Evaluation su maries, data, and test procedures are presented in detail for the pre-qualification of Titan II propellant transfer system components. These components include (1) heat exchangers, (2) canned pumps, (3) piston-operated angle globe valves, (4) manually-operated globe valves, (5) manually-operated ball or plug valves, (6) check valves, (7) flexible hoses, (8) filters, (9) control valves (regulators), (10) relief valves, (11) liquid sensors, (12) pressure gages, and (13) differential pressure instruments. Smear, chemical compatibility, and mechanical tests were performed on 13 lubricants to determine their suitability for use with storable propellants. Additional safety information, practices, and procedures acquired during the pre-qualification test program are presented to amplify the safety practices outlined in AFBMDTN-61-32 (AD-255 145).

Book Description
The design and operation of a storable propellants test facility utilizing N2O4 and the Titan II UDMH-N2H4 fuel blend as the fluid media are discussed. Two 6,000-gal stainless steel tanks provided fuel blend storage and similar tanks to store the N2O4. The blending system consisted of a 6,000-gal tank, two 260-gpm pumps for recirculation, and a high turbulence blender. The toxicity of the storable propellants necessitated the inclusion of aspirators, N purge connections, liquid drain valves and isolation valves to facilitate removal of components from the test sections. Similar precautions were provided for component removal from the fuel and oxidizer systems. Waste propellant liquid and vapor neutralization, material compatibility, contamination, leakage, lubricants, seals, and materials are discussed.

Book Description
Tests were conducted to determine the effects of the Titan II propellants on metals and non-metals and the effects of metals on fuel decomposition. The Titan II propellants are N2O4 as the oxidizer and a 50/50 blend of UDMH and N2H4 as the fuel. The fire hazards of various materials were determined during drip tests with N2O4 and 50/50 fuel blend separately. Storability data is presented for the fuel blend at 60 + or - 5 F. Also, fuel blend separation data was determined after storage at 60 + or - 5 F. Presented is the data from the U.S. Bureau of Mines regarding flammability characteristics of 50/50 fuel blend - N2O4 - air - water mixtures. (Author).
