Pages : 177

Book Description
Recent Advances in Animal Nutrition-1979 is a collection of studies that tackles the nutritional concerns of both ruminant and non-ruminant livestock. The book presents a total of 11 materials that cover the measurement of nutritional value of feeds up to the inter-relationships between nutrition, body condition, and reproduction of livestock. The text first tackles the nutritional availabilities in livestock diets, and then proceeds to dealing with covering topics related to energy value of feeds, such as energy evaluation of cereals for pig diets; developments of the metabolizable energy system for ruminants; and predicting the metabolizable energy value of feeds for ruminants. The book also covers the effects of cereal processing and growth stimulants on the efficiency of ruminant production. The selection will be most useful to both researchers and practitioners of animal related disciplines, such agriculture and veterinary medicine.

Trace-Element Contamination of the Environment

Trace-Element Contamination of the Environment PDF Author: D. Purves
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0444596291
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 256

Book Description
It is hard to imagine a more concise summary of the prodigious work and voluminous publications in this field... This volume should be available to students at the undergraduate level, to those in law school, and to all seriously concerned about an extremely important problem. This review in Choice was just one of the many favourable comments that greeted the appearance of the first edition of this book when it appeared in 1977. Since then, there has been an explosion of interest in almost every aspect of research in environmental pollution. The aim of this new edition, however, remains the same i.e. to evaluate the global biological consequences of dispersal of trace elements, originally mined from localized limited deposits, in the environment. In treating the problems of metal contamination of the environment, the author considers the problems of environmental pollution involving metals and the problem of exhaustion of finite reserves of ores of metals, such as cadmium, copper, lead, mercury, nickel and zinc, as aspects of a single global problem. A broad picture is presented of the overall process of dispersal of trace elements in the environment and the biological consequences of this process are documented with the aid of an intensive list of references. The book will be invaluable as a definitive reference source covering this field of interest for a wide range of people (environmentalists and conservationists, those concerned with management of resources and waste disposal, and agricultural chemists and soil scientists.)

Copper in Animal Wastes and Sewage Sludge

Copper in Animal Wastes and Sewage Sludge PDF Author: P. L'Hermite
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400985037
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 382

Book Description
This publication constitutes the Proceedings of a Workshop held in Bordeaux (France) on 8th - 10th October, 1980, under the auspices of the Commissior: of the European Communities, as part of the CEC research programme on 'Effluents from Livestock' and the Concerted Action COST 68 bis 'Treatment and Use of Sewage Sludge'. Major changes have taken place in livestock production techniques in recent years. One of the most important developments has been in the field of animal nutrition. Animals are fed to gain maximum liveweight in close relationship with market requirements for carcass and meat quality. With regard to pig production, dietary formulation is based on scientific principles and feed includes a large variety of ingredients to supply optimum feed rations for 'standardised' animals. In order to increase growth rate and to improve feed conversion, copper is added to the ratio~s of fattening pigs in a number of countries, in accordance with the provisions of Council Directives concerning additives in feedingstuffs, as last amended by the 23rd Commission Directive of 4th July 1980.

Recent Advances in Animal Nutrition

Recent Advances in Animal Nutrition PDF Author: W. Haresign
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483100235
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 257

Book Description
Recent Advances in Animal Nutrition — 1982 focuses on the compositions of animal feeds. The book first discusses the presence of molds and mycotoxins in animal feeds. Controlling mycotoxin exposure, formation and effects of mycotoxins, and microbiology of feeds are described. The text surveys the anti-nutritive factors in animal feeds. Substances depressing digestion or metabolic utilization of proteins; substances reducing the solubility or interfering with the utilization of mineral elements; and substances inactivating or increasing the requirements of vitamins are discussed. The book also highlights oilseed meals for livestock feeding; the use of databases for the composition and nutritive value of animal feeds; and energy evaluation of poultry rations. The text underscores the influence of nutrition on hatchability, including the composition and size of hatching eggs; the right amounts of proteins, lipids, vitamins, and minerals; feed ingredients; and feeding practices. The book also discusses the energy and protein requirements of pigs and methods used in the analysis of the energy content of ruminant feeds. The selection is a good source of data for readers interested in studying the compositions of animal feeds.

Trace Element Contamination of the Environment

Trace Element Contamination of the Environment PDF Author: David Purves
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0444601708
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 273

Book Description
Fundamental Aspects of Pollution Control and Environmental Science 1: Trace-Element Contamination of the Environment investigates the global biological consequences of dispersal of trace elements that are mined from localized limited deposits in the environment. It considers the problem of trace-element contamination of the biosphere as an environmental pollution and as part of the ecological crisis as a whole. Comprised of eight chapters, this volume begins with an overview of trace-element contaminants, such as lead, cadmium, and mercury. It then discusses factors affecting the trace-element composition of soils, including sulfur, lime, and fertilizers. It explains as well the trace-element contamination of the atmosphere and hydrosphere, the sources of trace-element contamination of soils, and the availability of trace elements in the soil. The consequences of trace-element contamination of the soil, including its effects on crops and animals, are also discussed. The book also provides ways to prevent dispersal of metals in the environment. This book will be an essential reading for undergraduates, law students, and those who are interested about environmental pollution caused by trace elements.
