Book Description
A protocol is described and evaluated for adapting the rate of a turbo code for frequency-hop packet transmissions over time-varying partial-band interference channels. The rate of the turbo code is adapted from packet to packet to optimize the throughput. In particular, the protocol is designed to use a high-rate code when there is little interference and a low-rate code when the interference occupies a significant fraction of the band, even though neither the transmitter nor the receiver know what fraction of the band contains interference. No external side information is provided to the receiver, and our scheme requires no additional redundancy (e.g., pilot symbols) in the data packet for the generation of side information. The information needed to adapt the code rate is derived from our adaptive decoding system, and the only feedback required from the receiver to the transmitter is provided by a few bits in each acknowledgment packet. Results on the performance of the protocol are given from turbo product codes.

Adaptive Wireless Transceivers

Adaptive Wireless Transceivers PDF Author: Lajos Hanzo
Publisher: Wiley-IEEE Press
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 760

Book Description
Adaptive Wireless Transceivers provides the reader with a broad overview of near-instantaneously adaptive transceivers in the context of TDMA, CDMA and OFDM systems. The adaptive transceivers examined employ powerful turbo codecs, turbo equalisers and space-time codecs, equipping the reader with a future-proof technological road map. It demonstrates that adaptive transceivers are capable of mitigating the channel quality fluctuations of the wireless channel as a lower-complexity alternative to space-time coding. By contrast, if the higher complexity of multiple transmitters and multiple receiver-assisted systems is deemed acceptable, the advantages of adaptability erode. Provides an in-depth introduction to channel equalisers and Kalman filtering and discusses the associated complexity versus performance trade-offs Introduces wideband near-instantaneously adaptive transceivers and studies their performance both with and without turbo channel coding Describes how to optimise adaptive modulation mode switching and highlights a range of practical considerations Introduces neural network based channel equalisers and discusses Radial Basis Function (RBF) assisted equalisers embedded into adaptive modems supported by turbo channel coding and turbo channel equalisation Employs the above adaptive principles also in the context of CDMA and OFDM transceivers and discusses the pros and cons of space-time coding versus adaptive modulation Researchers, advanced students and practising development engineers working in wireless communications will all find this valuable text an informative read.

Turbo Code Applications

Turbo Code Applications PDF Author: Keattisak Sripimanwat
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9781402036866
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 412

Book Description
Turbo Code Applications: a journey from a paper to realization presents c- temporary applications of turbo codes in thirteen technical chapters. Each chapter focuses on a particular communication technology utilizing turbo codes, and they are written by experts who have been working in related th areas from around the world. This book is published to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of turbo codes invention by Claude Berrou Alain Glavieux and Punya Thitimajshima (1993-2003). As known for more than a decade, turbo code is the astonishing error control coding scheme which its perf- mance closes to the Shannon’s limit. It has been honored consequently as one of the seventeen great innovations during the ?rst ?fty years of information theory foundation. With the amazing performance compared to that of other existing codes, turbo codes have been adopted into many communication s- tems and incorporated with various modern industrial standards. Numerous research works have been reported from universities and advance companies worldwide. Evidently, it has successfully revolutionized the digital commu- cations. Turbo code and its successors have been applied in most communications startingfromthegroundorterrestrialsystemsofdatastorage,ADSLmodem, and ?ber optic communications. Subsequently, it moves up to the air channel applications by employing to wireless communication systems, and then ?ies up to the space by using in digital video broadcasting and satellite com- nications. Undoubtedly, with the excellent error correction potential, it has been selected to support data transmission in space exploring system as well.

Book Description
Wireless communications has witnessed a tremendous growth during the past decade and further spectacular enabling technology advances are expected in an effort to render ubiquitous wireless connectivity a reality. Currently, a technical in-depth book on this subject is unavailable, which has a similar detailed exposure of OFDM, MIMO-OFDM and MC-CDMA. A further attraction of the joint treatment of these topics is that it allows the reader to view their design trade-offs in a comparative context. Divided into three main parts: Part I provides a detailed exposure of OFDM designed for employment in various applications Part II is another design alternative applicable in the context of OFDM systems where the channel quality fluctuations observed are averaged out with the aid of frequency-domain spreading codes, which leads to the concept of MC-CDMA Part III discusses how to employ multiple antennas at the base station for the sake of supporting multiple users in the uplink By providing an all-encompassing self-contained treatment this volume will appeal to a wide readership, as it is both an easy-reading textbook and a high-level research monograph.
