Book Description
In this work, novel contributions towards the emerging field of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) are introduced. AAL is a concept envisioned in the early 2000s by the European Commission, aiming at supporting specifically senior people by means of technology and thus helping them to lead independent and self-determined lives in their accustomed surroundings as long as possible. Modern home automation technology is believed to be the key to providing various services in the fields of health, safety, comfort, and communication. In the framework of this thesis, health monitoring aspects are of particular interest. Inactivity monitoring is a very promising approach thereto since it allows the detection of potential health threats or cases of emergency without being overly privacy intrusive. Deriving condensed and dependable inactivity profiles representing typical user behaviour is a pivotal prerequisite for automatic emergency monitoring. Several methodologies for computing such patterns are introduced. Based on those inactivity profiles, various alarming criteria (i.e., permissible inactivity thresholds) are utilised to trigger alarms automatically if the users' inactivity levels exceed individual, user-dependant limits. Since false alarms are inevitable in automatic alarming systems, a procedure of handling them is introduced as well. Finally, the real-world application of the devised AAL system is illustrated.

Smart Wearable Devices in Healthcare—Methodologies, Applications, and Algorithms
Author: Chang Yan
Publisher: Frontiers Media SA
ISBN: 2832540082
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 127
Book Description
Wearable health devices have been an emerging technology that enables an ambulatory acquisition of physiological signals to monitor health status over a long time (hours/days/weeks/years) inside and outside clinical environments. Big data and deep learning, in particular, are receiving a lot of attention in this rapidly growing digital health community. A key benefit of deep learning is to analyze and learn massive amounts of data, which makes it especially valuable in healthcare since raw data is largely gathered from personalized wearable health devices. A wide range of users may benefit from unobstructed and even remote monitoring of pertinent or vital signs, which makes it easier to detect life-threatening diseases early, track the progression of pathologies and stress levels, evaluate the efficacy of therapies, provide low-cost and reliable diagnoses, etc. Today’s personal health devices have provided an amazing insight into people’s health and wellness, which allow clinicians to use these smart wearables to collect and analyze measuring data like electroencephalogram (EEG), electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG), respiration, heart rate, temperature level, blood oxygen, and blood pressure for health monitoring or clinical trials. This Research Topic mainly focuses on the technical revolution in wearable health systems, which aims to design more smart and useful wearables, contributing to a substantial change in the methodologies, applications, and algorithms of machine learning for wearable health devices. With the help of deep learning and sensor fusion capabilities from wearable health platforms, this data will be used more effectively, which can help to construct smart, novel, specific solutions to improve the quality of healthcare and capabilities of utilizing new deep learning technologies.

Automated Secure Computing for Next-Generation Systems
Author: Amit Kumar Tyagi
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1394213921
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 522
Book Description
AUTOMATED SECURE COMPUTING FOR NEXT-GENERATION SYSTEMS This book provides cutting-edge chapters on machine-empowered solutions for next-generation systems for today’s society. Security is always a primary concern for each application and sector. In the last decade, many techniques and frameworks have been suggested to improve security (data, information, and network). Due to rapid improvements in industry automation, however, systems need to be secured more quickly and efficiently. It is important to explore the best ways to incorporate the suggested solutions to improve their accuracy while reducing their learning cost. During implementation, the most difficult challenge is determining how to exploit AI and ML algorithms for improved safe service computation while maintaining the user’s privacy. The robustness of AI and deep learning, as well as the reliability and privacy of data, is an important part of modern computing. It is essential to determine the security issues of using AI to protect systems or ML-based automated intelligent systems. To enforce them in reality, privacy would have to be maintained throughout the implementation process. This book presents groundbreaking applications related to artificial intelligence and machine learning for more stable and privacy-focused computing. By reflecting on the role of machine learning in information, cyber, and data security, Automated Secure Computing for Next-Generation Systems outlines recent developments in the security domain with artificial intelligence, machine learning, and privacy-preserving methods and strategies. To make computation more secure and confidential, the book provides ways to experiment, conceptualize, and theorize about issues that include AI and machine learning for improved security and preserve privacy in next-generation-based automated and intelligent systems. Hence, this book provides a detailed description of the role of AI, ML, etc., in automated and intelligent systems used for solving critical issues in various sectors of modern society. Audience Researchers in information technology, robotics, security, privacy preservation, and data mining. The book is also suitable for postgraduate and upper-level undergraduate students.
