Fish Diseases (2 Vols.)

Fish Diseases (2 Vols.) PDF Author: Jorge Eiras
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1482280485
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 1327

Book Description
Diseases are a major threat to both wild and farmed fish. Pathogen-induced alterations in viability and growth of wild fish stocks can have implications on diversity and ecological status of aquatic ecosystems, as fish are main components of aquatic communities, and they can directly affect the exploitation of wild and farmed fish as a protein sour

Antarctic Fish and Fisheries

Antarctic Fish and Fisheries PDF Author: K.-H. Kock
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9780521362504
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 380

Book Description
Although Antarctic finfish have been exploited for more than two decades and many stocks now appear to be overfished, this is the first detailed account of this fishery. The book begins by giving a comprehensive description of Antarctic fish biology and ecology, the thorough understanding of which is a prerequisite to sound management of the fishery. Subsequent sections consider the course of finfish exploitation and the present state of exploited fish stocks in the Southern Ocean. The author concludes by proposing more effective management methods for the fish resources of the Southern Ocean in light of the Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources.

Diagnosis and Control of Diseases of Fish and Shellfish

Diagnosis and Control of Diseases of Fish and Shellfish PDF Author: Brian Austin
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1119152135
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 418

Book Description
There has been a continual expansion in aquaculture, such that total production is fast approaching that of wild-caught fisheries. Yet the expansion is marred by continued problems of disease. New pathogens emerge, and others become associated with new conditions. Some of these pathogens become well established, and develop into major killers of aquatic species. Diagnosis and Control of Diseases of Fish and Shellfish focuses on the diagnosis and control of diseases of fish and shellfish, notably those affecting aquaculture. Divided into 12 chapters, the book discusses the range of bacterial, viral and parasitic pathogens, their trends, emerging problems, and the relative significance to aquaculture. Developments in diagnostics and disease management, including the widespread use of serological and molecular methods, are presented. Application/dose and mode of action of prebiotics, probiotics and medicinal plant products used to control disease are examined, as well as the management and hygiene precautions that can be taken to prevent/control the spread of disease. This book will be a valuable resource for researchers, students, diagnosticians, veterinarians, fish pathologists and microbiologists concerned with the management of diseases of fish and shellfish.

Fish Diseases and Disorders

Fish Diseases and Disorders PDF Author: P. T. K. Woo

The new edition has been thoroughly updated since publication of the first edition in 1995. It covers recent advances in the understanding of fish diseases including the improvement of diagnostic techniques and understanding of phylogenetic relationships stemming from the application of molecular techniques. The book also contains more detailed information on pathogens that cause amoebiasis.

Fishes in Lagoons and Estuaries in the Mediterranean 3B

Fishes in Lagoons and Estuaries in the Mediterranean 3B PDF Author: Mohamed Hichem Kara
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1119618142
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 281

Book Description
Based on the most recent scientific data, and without neglecting historical publications, Fishes in Lagoons and Estuaries in the Mediterranean 3 comprehensively details Mediterranean lagoonal–marine migratory fish. It provides information regarding their systematics, ecobiology, ethology, genetics and their exploitation. This volume, third in a set of books on Mediterranean ichthyofauna, offers a synthesis of the knowledge acquired from 1890 to the present day for each of the 21 species most frequently found in Mediterranean lagoons and estuaries. These species are detailed across two volumes, 3A and 3B. The scientific data presented in this book concern their lagoon life as much as their marine life, and are therefore of particular interest for both the management of fish stocks and for the conservation of species. Designed to give rapid and comprehensive access to the body of knowledge on Mediterranean lagoonal and estuarine migratory fishes, this volume is for anyone involved in the use, management or protection of natural environments and their populations, including ecobiologists, geographers, engineers, teachers, students and researchers.

Handbook on alien decapod crustaceans and new fishes of the Adriatic Sea

Handbook on alien decapod crustaceans and new fishes of the Adriatic Sea PDF Author: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
Publisher: Food & Agriculture Org.
ISBN: 9251380341
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 112

Book Description
This document reviews and compiles the scientific information available on the new and non-indigenous fish and decapod crustacean species in the Adriatic Sea, central Mediterranean Sea. For fish, the new species are those whose presence in the Adriatic Sea was recorded recently, since the year 2000. For decapod crustaceans, only alien species found in the Adriatic Sea after the Second World War are dealt with. In total, 15 crustaceans and 52 fish species were selected and presented in this handbook. Following an introductory section, giving a general overview on the Adriatic Sea geographical characteristics, this document reviews, in its first part, the ichthyofauna and decapod crustaceans in the area. The second part of the document provides a description of each new species including synonyms, meristic formula, main morphologic features, bio-ecology, known geographical distribution, relevance and reference literature. This work was designed and implemented within the framework of the FAO-AdriaMed Project “Scientific Cooperation to Support Responsible Fisheries in the Adriatic Sea”.
