Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 331918606X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 367

Book Description
This book, which goes far beyond a traditional collection of technical articles, is dedicated to Enric Trillas, a fuzzy systems pioneer but also an internationally renowned researcher in other areas of science, such as mathematics and aerospace, and an outstanding manager of scientific affairs in Spain. Some of the contributions in this book develop technical, state-of-the-art themes obviously related to fuzzy logic, while others resemble popular-science articles that shed light on complex mathematical concepts. There are also chapters that highlight the authors’ personal relationships and experiences working with Enric Trillas. While planning this book project, the editors decided to give contributors absolute freedom of thought and expression in preparing their chapters. The result is a colorful and inspiring mixture of styles and topics, which perfectly reflects Enric Trillas’s multifaceted contributions to research and his outstanding role in promoting education and technological transfer in the field of soft computing. This Festschrift to Enric Trillas, published on the occasion of his 75th birthday, is not only intended as an exemplary source of information for young scientists dealing with uncertainty, imprecision and accuracy of models, but also as an inspiring guide to the role of scientists in education, politics and communication.

Reasoning and Language at Work

Reasoning and Language at Work PDF Author: Enric Trillas
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030860884
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 120

Book Description
This book furthers the historical and technical debate by looking at reasoning as the action of language when it is devoted to explaining or foretelling, based on the authors’ centennial combined experience in fuzzy logic. A simple logical model mixing abductions and deductions is introduced in order to attain speculations, conjectures that may be responsible for induction, and creativity in reasoning. A central point and a dire hypothesis of the book are that such process can be implemented by computation and as such can lead to a new approach to automatic thinking and reasoning. On top of the technical approach, the relationship between reasoning and thinking is also analyzed trying to establish links with notions and concepts of thinkers from the European Middle Age to the current days. This book is recommended to young researchers that are interested in either the scientific or philosophical aspects of computational thinking, and can further the debate between the two approaches.

Fuzzy Logic in Its 50th Year

Fuzzy Logic in Its 50th Year PDF Author: Cengiz Kahraman
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319310933
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 406

Book Description
This book offers a multifaceted perspective on fuzzy set theory, discussing its developments over the last 50 years. It reports on all types of fuzzy sets, from ordinary to hesitant fuzzy sets, with each one explained by its own developers, authoritative scientists well known for their previous works. Highlighting recent theorems and proofs, the book also explores how fuzzy set theory has come to be extensively used in almost all branches of science, including the health sciences, decision science, earth science and the social sciences alike. It presents a wealth of real-world sample applications, from routing problem to robotics, and from agriculture to engineering. By offering a comprehensive, timely and detailed portrait of the field, the book represents an excellent reference guide for researchers, lecturers and postgraduate students pursuing research on new fuzzy set extensions.

Politics of Nature

Politics of Nature PDF Author: Bruno Latour
Publisher: Harvard University Press
ISBN: 0674039963
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 320

Book Description
A major work by one of the more innovative thinkers of our time, Politics of Nature does nothing less than establish the conceptual context for political ecology—transplanting the terms of ecology into more fertile philosophical soil than its proponents have thus far envisioned. Bruno Latour announces his project dramatically: “Political ecology has nothing whatsoever to do with nature, this jumble of Greek philosophy, French Cartesianism and American parks.” Nature, he asserts, far from being an obvious domain of reality, is a way of assembling political order without due process. Thus, his book proposes an end to the old dichotomy between nature and society—and the constitution, in its place, of a collective, a community incorporating humans and nonhumans and building on the experiences of the sciences as they are actually practiced. In a critique of the distinction between fact and value, Latour suggests a redescription of the type of political philosophy implicated in such a “commonsense” division—which here reveals itself as distinctly uncommonsensical and in fact fatal to democracy and to a healthy development of the sciences. Moving beyond the modernist institutions of “mononaturalism” and “multiculturalism,” Latour develops the idea of “multinaturalism,” a complex collectivity determined not by outside experts claiming absolute reason but by “diplomats” who are flexible and open to experimentation.

Introduction to Fuzzy Reliability

Introduction to Fuzzy Reliability PDF Author: Kai-Yuan Cai
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9780792397373
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 344

Book Description
Introduction to Fuzzy Reliability treats fuzzy methodology in hardware reliability and software reliability in a relatively systematic manner. The contents of this book are organized as follows. Chapter 1 places reliability engineering in the scope of a broader area, i.e. system failure engineering. Readers will find that although this book is confined to hardware and software reliability, it may be useful for other aspects of system failure engineering, like maintenance and quality control. Chapter 2 contains the elementary knowledge of fuzzy sets and possibility spaces which are required reading for the rest of this book. This chapter is included for the overall completeness of the book, but a few points (e.g. definition of conditional possibility and existence theorem of possibility space) may be new. Chapter 3 discusses how to calculate probist system reliability when the component reliabilities are represented by fuzzy numbers, and how to analyze fault trees when probabilities of basic events are fuzzy. Chapter 4 presents the basic theory of profust reliability, whereas Chapter 5 analyzes the profust reliability behavior of a number of engineering systems. Chapters 6 and 7 are devoted to probist reliability theory from two different perspectives. Chapter 8 discusses how to model software reliability behavior by using fuzzy methodology. Chapter 9 includes a number of mathematical problems which are raised by applications of fuzzy methodology in hardware and software reliability, but may be important for fuzzy set and possibility theories.

Some properties of Pentagonal Neutrosophic Numbers and its Applications in Transportation Problem Environment

Some properties of Pentagonal Neutrosophic Numbers and its Applications in Transportation Problem Environment PDF Author: Avishek Chakraborty
Publisher: Infinite Study
ISBN:
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 16

Book Description
In this research article we actually deals with the conception of pentagonal Neutrosophic number from a different frame of reference. Recently, neutrosophic set theory and its extensive properties have given different dimensions for researchers. This paper focuses on pentagonal neutrosophic numbers and its distinct properties. At the same time, we defined the disjunctive cases of this number whenever the truthiness, falsity and hesitation portion are dependent and independent to each other. Some basic properties of pentagonal neutrosophic numbers with its logical score and accuracy function is introduced in this paper with its application in real life operation research problem which is more reliable than the other methods.
