Book Description
This is the story of a man who took almost a lifetime to realize that the accidentals of his first fifty years were really the essentials he needed to blossom as a happy, productive chef who enjoys what he does, how he does it, and how he brings enjoyment to others. Some of Joseph's early journey is recounted at the beginning of the book, tales from the ovens of both his mother and his maternal grandparents. Some stories from later years tell of his ongoing love affair with cooking, intermingled with stories of friends, travel and career changes. Still others are serious and soul searching. The man who describes himself as "chubby" since childhood shares recipes remembered and recreated from comfort foods enjoyed by family, to those of Billy, his first restaurateur boss, to those enjoyed in New York, to those amazing traditional dishes of Matilde, a woman he met in Italy. Joseph Caputo has enjoyed a lifetime of family, educational, and theatrical experiences. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he was educated in parochial schools, and went on to earn a degree in Communications from Marywood College in Scranton, and a Master's Degree in Theatre from the State University of New York. Joseph has combined his passion for food, storytelling, and theatre into a recipe for success. Spending countless hours in the kitchen of his boyhood home, and in exceptionally fine restaurants in New York City and worldwide have helped him to develop a unique culinary style. Blessed with keen perception as to which ingredients created the great dishes he enjoyed, he most often came home with a recipe all his own, and more spectacular than the original. Today he is chef/owner of two successful businesses Catering by Joseph LTD, and Zuppa del Giorno, il ristorante di pranzo, both located in Scranton.

Written by Lauren Lobley, a former sugar addict and pastry chef turned healthy chef and health coach, The Accidental Paleo takes a carnivore's approach to plant based eating. By being mindful of textures, layers of flavor, colors and nutrition in every concoction, the recipes in this book are designed to satisfy every palate, whether they prefer their meals with or without meat. The desserts are refined sugar free (and in most cases, naturally sweetened, like the almond butter banana cheesecake), the appetizers trick the palate with their clever use of cashews and coconut milk to feign a creamy texture (like the warm spinach and artichoke dip - to die for), and the main meals carefully build upon an array of vegetables and sauces to leave everyone full and satiated (like the butternut squash lasagna). The Accidental Paleo is culinary fun for the whole family. A feast for the eyes and the taste buds, get ready to fall in love with plant-based eating like you never imagined you would. Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
"Ellen Bennett is the platonic form of a go-getter who inspires go-getter after go-getter to become a better go-getter."—Zooey Deschanel, actor and musician You’ll never know where to start…until you start. This gutsy guidebook will help anyone who's procrastinating on a goal, career change, or business idea stop the obsessive worrying and leap into action. As a 24-year-old line cook, Ellen Marie Bennett couldn't stand the kitchen staff’s poorly designed, cheaply made aprons. So when her head chef announced he was ordering a new batch, she blurted out, “Chef, I have an apron company”—even though she had no company, no business plan—just a glimmer of a design idea and a business license. Through hustle and a willingness to leap into the unknown, time and time again, she built that first order into a multi-million-dollar company called Hedley & Bennett, making aprons and kitchen gear worn by many of the world’s best chefs and home cooks everywhere. Dream First, Details Later shares Ellen's journey and her forged-in-the-fire personal playbook for starting before you stop yourself. If you've ever imagined doing something and immediately thought, "that's impossible," or "I wouldn't even know where to start," or "I'm not qualified to do that," in these pages, you'll learn how to shove aside your inner worrier and launch into action. This honest and bold illustrated book will be like having Ellen—your personal hype woman—there with you, all the while yelling, "Don't stop! You got this!" She'll share hard-won advice on: • Squashing doubts and reservations about venturing outside your comfort zone. (These doubts masquerade as rational, but they’re more likely coming from a place of fear.) • Saying screw it to the perfect plan and using creative problem-solving—and heart and guts—to conquer the shit storms as they come. • Eventually transitioning from the "flying by the seat of your pants" stage to the "well-oiled machine" stage. You don't need to have all the answers to make your dream a reality. You just need to start before you're ready.

Book Description
Mario Conde investigates a murder in the Barrio Chino, the rundown Chinatown of Havana. The case proves to be unusual. Pedro Cuang, a lonely old man, is found hanging naked from a beam in the ceiling of his dingy room. One of his fingers has been amputated and a drawing of two arrows was engraved with a knife on his chest. Was this a ritual Santería killing or a just a sordid settling of accounts in a world of drug trafficking that began to infiltrate Cuban society in the 1980s? Soon Conde discovers unexpected connections, secret businesses and a history of misfortune, uprooting and loneliness that affected many immigrant families from China. As ever with Padura, the story is soaked in atmosphere: the drinking of rum in deliciously smoke-filled bars, the friendships, the food and beautiful women.
