Thomas Smithson (ca. 1675-1732) married Ann Scott, daughter of Daniel and Jane Johnson Scott, ca. 1703 in Maryland. They had eight children, 1704-1720. He died in Baltimore County, Maryland. Descendants of his sons, Thomas Smithson (1712-1795) and Daniel Smithson (b. 1714), listed lived in Maryland, Georgia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Illinois, and elsewhere.
