Now that the last of the twelve volumes is about to go to press, and looking backward, the task which at first seemed so arduous and doubtful, seems neither difficult nor unpromising. It has been argued that no one but a lawyer, or one expecting to be a lawyer would read a book, or series of books, devoted to the principles of legal science.
