Book Description
The interaction of two impinging plane turbulent jets was investigated for the purpose of understanding the performance of proportional fluid amplifiers and momentum-exchange devices. Velocity and turbulence profiles were measured across and at various distances along the combined jet axis through the use of a constant temperature hot-wire anemometer. Experimentally determined jet deflection angles were found to agree with those predicted in a previous work by the free-streamline theory. The results, which are presented in terms of normalized parameters, show that the jet interaction may be divided into three regions: mixing; transition; and fully developed. A vena-contracta effect was found to exist in the mixing region. A discussion of each of the three regions is presented in detail along with generalizations for similar geometries. (Author).

Book Description
The interaction of three jets is studied both theoretically and experimentally. The angle of deflection and the velocity and turbulence distributions were determined through the use of a hot-wire anemometer. The free-streamline theory has been applied to the determination of the jet deflection and the results so obtained were found to be in good agreement with those obtained experimentally. The study is a convincing evidence of the fact that a proper combination of inviscid flow analysis together with experimental results can provide the necessary guidance for the design of proportional amplifiers. Book Description
The report is concerned with the theoretical and experimental study of the interaction of semi-confined, subsonic, turbulent jets, the application of the results to fluidics being one of the primary objectives in mind. The theoretical results obtained both through the use of the free-streamline theory and a new momentum analysis for both the single and symmetric control-jet configurations are presented in the first part of the report. The second part covers the detailed experimental investigations of the jet deflection and the velocity-and turbulence-profile measurements obtained with a hot-wire anemometer for both the single-control-jet and summetric beam-deflection type amplifiers. Finally, the results of the two parts of the study are compared and the advantages and shortcomings of the various analyses are presented. (Author).
