Book Description
Excerpt from A Systematic Treatise on Electrical Measurements AN accurate knowledge of electrical measurement, to the electrical engineer as well as the physicist, is of the first importance. It is a branch of science where engineering and physics meet. There appears, however, in many instances, to be a lack of uniformity in the methods employed. Indeed, it almost seems as if there were two schools of electrical measurement. But this is probably due, to some extent at least, to the lack of a proper co-ordination and classification of the subject. An Elementary Treatise on Electrical Measurement

An Elementary Treatise on Electrical Measurement PDF Author: Latimer Clark
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780267142118
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 192

Book Description
Excerpt from An Elementary Treatise on Electrical Measurement: For the Use of Telegraph Inspectors and Operators The Author having had occasion to write a little Manual to accompany some instruments designed for a special purpose, has thought that its publication might be of use to students preparing themselves for the ser vice Of the Electric Telegraph, and to others who might desire an Elementary Treatise on the subject of Electrical Measurement. The first half Of the work is designed for the use Of the student, and the practical telegraphist who has not given much time to the study of his subject, and is therefore written in a somewhat colloquial style it is possible that from this cause it may prove more readable and attractive than works of a more advanced character, and may tend to awaken an interest in the subject among many who have hitherto been content to employ the services of. Electricity daily without caring to acquaint themselves with the laws of its operation. The Author believes that the form of galvanometer herein recommended will be found a very useful and convenient instrument for all the practical measure ments Of telegraphy. Unlike ordinary: galvanometers, it is peculiarly suited for testing batteries, and the measure of their internal resistance is perhaps more easily and expeditiously obtained by this instrument than by any other method.* The latter half of the work is in the form of an Appendix, which has been added to the original treatise in order to make it useful to the practical electrician. It contains a variety of formulae, tables, and data for general use, chiefly taken from the author's note-book and also a description of the methods of measurement usually employed in telegraphy, with the formulae relating to them, which may often serve as an aid to the memory. The algebraic expressions throughout the book are put into a form especially intended for the use Of those who do not Often have recourse to them. The book having thus been written in two different portions, is necessarily wanting in all unity of design, for which, as for other imperfections, the author claims the indulgence Of his readers. His acknowledgments are due to Mr. J. C. Laws for the assistance he has rendered in revising most of the calculations in the work. An Introduction to Physical Measurements

An Introduction to Physical Measurements PDF Author: F. Kohlrausch
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780666476968
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 500

Book Description
Excerpt from An Introduction to Physical Measurements: With Appendices on Absolute Electrical Measurement, Etc The Author, in the preface to the second German edition, gives a sketch of the purposes which he hopes that the pre sent book will serve. He says, a truth which all experience confirms, that the mere verbal teaching of physical laws is seldom of much use, tending frequently merely to confuse the student; while the simple performance of an experiment gives him confidence in himself and in the laws he is investi gating, and leads him, by means of measurements which can be independently verified, to that knowledge of his powers which is so important when he has to do any original work. Since the greater part of the treatise is devoted to measure ments of physical quantities, we have thought its object better expressed by the title we have given it than by a literal translation of the German one. Descriptions of apparatus are but rarely given, as students mostly have instruments provided for them, and seldom have to make their own apparatus, or to put it together. The mathematical knowledge required is but very ele mentary, as the proofs of the formulae are only given when they present no complex arguments. Electrical Measurements (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: Frank A. Laws
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9781528547666

Pages : 736

Book Description
Excerpt from Electrical Measurements In this book it is intended to give a general treatment of the subject of electrical measurements, special emphasis being placed on those matters which are important to the student of electrical engineering. In preparing a book of this character one has to consider, not only the mature reader who may desire a compendium of methods together with certain practical suggestions, but the student who is beginning the study of Electrical Engineering and who should acquire early in his course a sound knowledge of the process of electrical measurement. This knowledge is fundamental not only to much of the work which the student is required to do in the dynamo laboratory as a matter of engineering training, but to an adequate understanding of electrical testing as it is eu countered in the practice of the electrical engineering profession. In the preparation of the text this second class of readers has been particularly in mind. It is assumed that those who use this text have had courses in physics, the theory of electricity, and in mathematics, such as are given to third year students in technical schools of the first rank.
