The firfi fet, or milk teeth, as they are commonly call ed, as well as fome of the others, are formed in the jaw before birth; but they do not in general appear above the gums till the child is feveral months old. In fome inflances, about the fourth or fifth month, but molt frequently about the eighth or ninth, two of the inci fores appear'in the lower jaw. Thefe are commonly fucceeded by two in the upper jaw, and the other four fore teeth appear afterwards, at uncertain periods, be tween this and the tenth or twelfth month, About the fixteenth or Feventeenth month, four of the large molares appear for in childhood there are no_fmall molares a One of thefe pufh out on each fide, leaving a (pace between them and the incifores for the canine teeth which being formed farther up in the jaw, fel-i dom appear before the twentieth month but about this period, or between this and the end of the fecond year, both they and other Four molares have common ly /made their appearance.
