Excerpt from A System of Surgery, Vol. 3 In childhood there are only twenty or twenty four teeth, which continue till the fixth or feventh year, when they begin to drop, and are fucceeded by others which are termed the Adult or Permanent teeth. The firfi fet, or milk teeth, as they are commonly call ed, as well as fome of the others, are formed in the jaw before birth; but they do not in general appear above the gums till the child is feveral months old. In fome inflances, about the fourth or fifth month, but molt frequently about the eighth or ninth, two of the inci fores appear'in the lower jaw.
