A survey of optometrists in Oklahoma, to measure their compliance with meaningful use guidelines and to determine if there were any correlations with years in practice or the electronic health record software that they were using. Methods. The study was an anonymous survey-based study, which contained four questions as well as a comments section. The survey was given to optometrists attending a continuing education meeting at the Five State Symposium in Tahlequah, OK. Results. We found "number of years practiced" to be the only statistically significant factor for noncompliance. Although more participants would have increased the reliability of our findings, we did observe a correlation between a practitioner's dislike of electronic health record system and noncompliance. Conclusion. Based on our findings, "years of practice" was confirmed statistically to have an effect on rate of compliance. Due to the broad range of electronic health records our participants used, we were unable to correlate the type of electronic health record used with rate of compliance.

Purpose. To analyze how the new Affordable Care Act, signed into law by President Barack Obama, will affect optometrists in the state of Oklahoma. Investigate optometrists' views toward the law, and how they anticipate it will affect their practices. Methods. A 16-question, 10-minutes web-based survey was created to address important aspects of the Affordable Care Act that pertain to Optometry. Working with the Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians (OAOP), anonymous survey data from members of the organization will be collected via email and analyzed. Results. We collected surveys from OAOP members and analyzed their responses. We compiled the data, gathered frequencies and percentages of answers, and created charts and graphs to support our evidence. We found that most optometrists in the state of Oklahoma, who responded to the survey, felt very negatively towards the Affordable Care Act even though most of them reported having little understanding of the changes implemented in the Affordable Care Act. They feel that it will have a negative impact on the profession of Optometry. Conclusion. There are both positives and negatives aspects of the Affordable Care Act to the practice of optometry in Oklahoma. Overall Optometrists in Oklahoma have a somewhat negative view towards the law and are concerned about its impact on their practices.
