Book Description
Various approaches to the problem of predicting the refraction of bomb-generated waves were attempted and compared with refraction observed with aerial photography at Mono Lake in the summer of 1965. Although the observations permitted only limited comparisons to be made, it was concluded that ray theory refraction analysis techniques developed for progressive waves of constant period could be utilized for cylindrically expanding waves with fair success. (Author).

Water Waves Generated by Underwater Explosion

Water Waves Generated by Underwater Explosion PDF Author: Bernard Le Mehaute
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9789810220839
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 398

Book Description
This is the first book on explosion-generated water waves. It presents the theoretical foundations and experimental results of the generation and propagation of impulsively generated waves resulting from underwater explosions. Many of the theories and concepts presented herein are applicable to other types of water waves, in particular, tsunamis and waves generated by the fall of a meteorite. Linear and nonlinear theories, as well as experimental calibrations, are presented for cases of deep and shallow water explosions. Propagation of transient waves on dissipative, nonuniform bathymetries together with laboratory simulations are analyzed and discussed.

Book Description
Kranzer and Keller investigate the complex phenomenon of water waves produced by underwater explosions. Through careful experimentation and data analysis, they develop a comprehensive understanding of the physics at play in this fascinating area of study. Their work provides valuable insight for scientists and engineers interested in understanding the behavior of fluids under extreme conditions. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work is in the "public domain in the United States of America, and possibly other nations. Within the United States, you may freely copy and distribute this work, as no entity (individual or corporate) has a copyright on the body of the work. Study of Explosion-generated Surface Water Waves

Study of Explosion-generated Surface Water Waves PDF Author: K. Kaplan
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 45

Book Description
Explosion generated surface waves in deep water is discussed. The tests will be carried out at pressures as low as 0.001 atmosphere in a large (10 ft diameter, 20 ft long) cylindrical vacuum vessel within which will be placed a rectangular tank (4 ft wide, 13 ft long, and 6 ft deep) filled to a depth of 5 ft with an inhibited transformer oil. The early events following detonations both above and below the fluid surface will be documented with high-speed motion picture photography. Four locations in the vertical will be examined with energy releases of from 1 to 300 calories. Both exploding wires and chemical explosives will be used as sources. Some preliminary tests with wires exploded in water at normal atmospheric pressure are described. (Author).
