Structure and Properties of Polymer Films

Structure and Properties of Polymer Films PDF Author: R. Lenz
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461589517
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 346

Book Description
The study of the relationship between the structure, morphology and properties of polymer films has significantly progressed in recent years through the use of a number of phyiscal techniques - some new and some old. These methods include small and large angle x-ray diffraction, bire fringence, light scattering, infrared dichroism, fluorescence polarization, light and electron microscopy and interferrometry. This collection of papers, most of which were presented at a symposium at the Boston American Chemical Society Meeting in April, 1972, represent a collection of recent studies using many of these methods by some of the leading scientists in their fields. It is evident that these various techniques permit the study of various aspects of film structure such as crystal structure and orientation, amorphous orientation, the interrelation of crystalline and amorphous regions in lamellar, fibrillar, and spherulitic superstructure and the relationshi. p of these structural variables to the mechanical and optical properties of the films. Film structure is sufficiently complex that a complete understanding of the relationship between structure and properties will come from the employment of a combination of several of these methods. vii CONTENTS Optical Studies of the Morphology of Polymer Films ••• • • 1 Richard S. The Science and Technology of Flexible Packaging

The Science and Technology of Flexible Packaging PDF Author: Barry A. Morris
Publisher: William Andrew
ISBN: 0323243258
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 746

Book Description
The Science and Technology of Flexible Packaging: Multilayer Films from Resin and Process to End Use provides a comprehensive guide to the use of plastic films in flexible packaging, covering scientific principles, properties, processes, and end use considerations. The book brings the science of multilayer films to the practitioner in a concise and impactful way, presenting the fundamental understanding required to improve product design, material selection, and processes, and includes information on why one material is favored over another for a particular application, or how the film or coating affects material properties. Detailed descriptions and analysis of the key properties of packaging films are provided from both an engineering and scientific perspective. End-use effects are also covered in detail, providing key insights into the way the products being packaged influence film properties and design. The book bridges the gap between key scientific literature and the practical challenges faced by the flexible packaging industry, providing essential scientific insights, best practice techniques, environmental sustainability information, and key principles of structure design to enable engineers and scientists to deliver superior products with reduced development time and cost. Provides essential information on all aspects of multilayer films in flexible packaging Aids in material selection and processing, shortening development times and delivering stronger products Bridges the gap between scientific principles and key challenges in the packaging industry, with practical explanations to assist practitioners in overcoming those challenges

Polymer Chemistry

Polymer Chemistry PDF Author: Andrew J. Peacock
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 432

Book Description
This book provides a comprehensive introduction to the study of polymers. Special emphasis is given to the characteristics that set polymers apart from small molecules, as studied in classic chemistry courses. The various branches of polymer science are introduced and discussed in a systematic manner, starting from basic chemical structures, continuing through supermolecular organization and physical properties. Specific examples are used throughout to illustrate how end usage relates to the principles under discussion. A series of chapters is devoted to case studies describing the principal classes of synthetic polymers.
