Theory of Plastic Bending Waves in a Bar of Strain Rate Material, with Companion Studies on Elastic Bars
Author: H. J. Plass
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Elastic rods and wires
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
This report contains a theory of bending waves in a rod in which plastic stresses are present. The theory is an extension of that of Malvern for longitudinal waves; it assumes a strain rate law similar to his for both bending stresses and shear stress. It is assumed, as in the Timoshenko equation, that shear deformation and rotatory inertia are important in determining the properties of the waves.

A Comparison of Plastic Longitudinal Wave Theories for Straight Rods
Author: H. J. Plass
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Elastic rods and wires
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
A few numerical comparisons are made on the stresses, strains and velocities in a rod whose end is subjected to a sudden velocity impact. The computations made are based on three different theories: (a) the von Kármán plastic wave theory, (b) the Malvern theory which considers a strain rate proportional to the dynamic stress excess over static stress, and (c) the strain-rate theory of Prandtl which predicts an exponential relationship between strain rate and dynamic stress excess.
