Book Description
The dynamic loads acting on gear teeth are very complex. To better understand dynamic loads, this research was carried out with the objectives of measuring experimentally dynamic loads and the frictional forces between gear teeth in mesh. By using strain gages mounted on the sides of the teeth, the transverse component of the dynamic load was measured and is shown for all phases of contact. Using the transverse component at the pitch radius, the dynamic load ratios were computed and found to be substantially lower than predicted by the Buckingham equation. However, sufficient information for evaluating the frictional force was not obtained and further research will be required to evaluate the radial component of the dynamic load. (Author).

Predicted Effect of Dynamic Load on Pitting Fatigue Life for Low-contact-ratio Spur Gears
Author: David G. Lewicki
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Computer programs
Languages : en
Pages : 24
Book Description
How dynamic load affects the surface pitting fatigue life of external spur gears was predicted by using NASA computer program TELSGE. Parametric studies were performed over a range of various gear parameters modeling low-contact-ratio involute spur gears. In general, gear life predictions based on dynamic loads differed significantly from those based on static loads, with the predictions being strongly influenced by the maximum dynamic load during contact. Gear mesh operating speed strongly affected predicted dynamic load and life. Meshes operating at a resonant speed or one-half the resonant speed had significantly shorter lives. Dynamic life factors for gear surface pitting fatigue were developed on the basis of the parametric studies. In general, meshes with higher contact ratios had higher dynamic life factors than meshes with lower contact ratios. A design chart was developed for hand calculations of dynamic life factors. (Author).

Dynamic Loading of Spur Gears with Linear Or Parabolic Tooth Profile Modifications
Author: Hsiang Hsi Lin
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 17
Book Description
A computer simulation was conducted to investigate the effects of both linear and parabolic tooth profile modification on the dynamic response of low-contact-ratio spur gears. The effect of the total amount of modification and the length of the modification zone were studied at various loads and speeds to find the optimal profile modification for minimal dynamic loading. Design charts consisting of normalized maximum dynamic load curves were generated for gear systems operated at various loads and with different tooth profile modification. An optimum profile modification can be determined from these design charts to minimize the dynamic loads of spur gear systems. Keywords: Spur gears, Gear teeth, Gear noise, Gearboxes, Dynamic load, Profile modification, Transmission error, Gear design. (SDW).
