10 Fabulous Fables

10 Fabulous Fables PDF Author: Tamara Fonteyn
Publisher: NanookBooks
ISBN: 1623211069
Category : Juvenile Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 61

Book Description
This remarkable book has something more than what children like most—it has what parents like most! Parents and children alike will feel empathy for the virtuous Teal Hattie as she faces her dauntless, witchy aunts. Similarly, a snake’s dream of becoming a cyclist and almost winning a race will inspire them. They will reflect on whether the unrestrained love for work of Brigitte the bee wouldn’t be by any chance a flaw of character. With interest, they will discover a new proof of the goodness of fairies, and with pleasure, they will witness the transformation of a tattered scarecrow into a good guardian of mice and birds. They will try to puzzle out the problem of harmony facing a nightingale choir teacher. They will reflect on the meaning of friendship as they follow Johnny’s unusual forest adventure. They will frown at the surreal prank pulled by the paint fairies and marvel at the resolve of Prince Alexander as he tackles rebellious wolves. The secret of the fulfilment of one’s dream will be unveiled to them as they travel up to the moon and back. These new intriguing tales will bring children and parents joy and valuable thoughts to mull over, because the stories are short, delightfully classic in form, with interesting plots, surprising conclusions and clear moral messages.

Black Reconstruction in America

Black Reconstruction in America PDF Author: W. E. B. Du Bois
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1351376616
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 684

Book Description
After four centuries of bondage, the nineteenth century marked the long-awaited release of millions of black slaves. Subsequently, these former slaves attempted to reconstruct the basis of American democracy. W. E. B. Du Bois, one of the greatest intellectual leaders in United States history, evaluates the twenty years of fateful history that followed the Civil War, with special reference to the efforts and experiences of African Americans. Du Bois's words best indicate the broader parameters of his work: "the attitude of any person toward this book will be distinctly influenced by his theories of the Negro race. If he believes that the Negro in America and in general is an average and ordinary human being, who under given environment develops like other human beings, then he will read this story and judge it by the facts adduced." The plight of the white working class throughout the world is directly traceable to American slavery, on which modern commerce and industry was founded, Du Bois argues. Moreover, the resulting color caste was adopted, forwarded, and approved by white labor, and resulted in the subordination of colored labor throughout the world. As a result, the majority of the world's laborers became part of a system of industry that destroyed democracy and led to World War I and the Great Depression. This book tells that story.

Book Description
From wondrous fairy-lands to nightmarish hellscapes, the elements that make fantasy worlds come alive also invite their exploration. This first book-length study of critically acclaimed novelist Patricia A. McKillip's lyrical other-worlds analyzes her characters, environments and legends and their interplay with genre expectations. The author gives long overdue critical attention to McKillip's work and demonstrates how a broader understanding of world-building enables a deeper appreciation of her fantasies.

Book Description
Excerpt from The Sorceress, Vol. 1 of 2: A Novel Miss Lance, however, did not see her duty in the same way; indeed, after the poor little child died (and there was no doubt she had been invaluable during its illness, and devoted herself to it as she had done to its mother) she stayed on still at Leigh Court, though now at last poor Aubrey was persuaded to go away. The mind of the county was relieved beyond description when at last he departed on his travels. These good people did not at all want to get up any scandal in their midst. They did not very much blame Miss Lance for declining to give up a comfortable home. They only felt it was dreadfully awkward and that something should be done about it, though nobody knew what to do. He had left home nearly six months before he appeared at the Bath with that letter to Mrs. Kingsward in his pocket, and the change and the travel had done him good.
