Book Description
Before Christianity reached the Celtic territory, a rich landlord Dinkins had many women. The one he loved mostly was called Sophia. Sophia loved him too. One day, Dinkins saved a pretty girl named Vipy, in a wild mountain pass. Since she was homeless, Dinkins kept her living with him. They lived happily, before a Christian apostle Farley told Dinkins that he was bewitched by a monster. Farley gave him a cross and told him that it could protect him from danger. Soon, Dinkins found Vipy was in fact a werewolf under a beautiful skin. The cross though worked a little but it wasn't enough as protecting him and it revealed his unfaithfulness to their love. It rouse Vipy's wrath. As a monster, she didn't know how to win the heart of a human being so she gouged out Dinkins'; physical heart and left him dead. Sophia turned to Farley for help. Farley killed the werewolf but he could not return the life of Dinkins; only Death had the power to do it. After being humiliated and insulted by the Death, Sophia did have her husband's heart back and saved him. When Dinkins revived and was told what Farley had done for him, he donated all his property to church. For this reason, many years late, when his son Xu grew up, the family was poor and no girl wanted to marry him. At Lughnasadh (a Celtic festival), Xu met a beautiful girl. In despite of many pursuers, she loved him. Xu was exited and worried by this unmatched love but his sister warned him that the girl might be another monster like Vipy. She told him a good method to test it. At the night of Halloween, Celt used to drink whisky with pumpkin, for it was the poison of monsters; the smell could protect innocent people from them. The sister told her brother to drink it with the suspected girl at that night.

King Arthur was not an Englishman, but a Celtic warrior, according to Loomis, whose research into the background of the Arthurian legend reveals findings which are both illuminating and highly controversial. If Loomis's arguments are accepted, where does this leave the historic Arthur?

Book Description
Selected by Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Parade, Oprah.com, and MSN.com as one of the best books to read this summer! The seductive story of a dangerous love triangle, inspired by the infamous Nabokov marriage, with a spellbinding psychological thriller at its core. In the 1920s, Zoya Andropova, a young refugee from the Soviet Union, finds herself in the alien landscape of an elite all-girls New Jersey boarding school. Having lost her family, her home, and her sense of purpose, Zoya struggles to belong, a task made more difficult by the malice her peers heap on scholarship students and her new country's paranoia about Russian spies. When she meets the visiting writer and fellow Russian émigré Leo Orlov--whose books Zoya has privately obsessed over for years--her luck seems to have taken a turn for the better. But she soon discovers that Leo is not the solution to her loneliness: he's committed to his art and bound by the sinister orchestrations of his brilliant wife, Vera. As the reader unravels the mystery of Zoya, Lev, and Vera's fate, Zoya is faced with mounting pressure to figure out who she is and what kind of life she wants to build. Grappling with class distinctions, national allegiance, and ethical fidelity--not to mention the powerful magnetism of sex--Invitation to a Bonfire investigates how one's identity is formed, irrevocably, through a series of momentary decisions, including how to survive, who to love, and whether to pay the complicated price of happiness.
