X-ray Fluorescence Capabilities for Uranium Ore Analysis

X-ray Fluorescence Capabilities for Uranium Ore Analysis PDF Author:

Book Description
A rapid x-ray fluorescence (XRF) method for the quantitative analysis of uranium in ore and process samples is demonstrated. The method requires no uranium ore standards and provides a relative precision of +-2.5 percent. Particle-size and self-absorption effects are evaluated along with current methods of excitation and detection for M, L, and K series uranium x-rays. Sensitivities and detection limits are comparable using either energy dispersive or wavelength dispersive analysis of uranium L x-rays, and wavelength dispersive analysis of uranium M x-rays for both thick and thin samples. The XRF methods are more sensitive than the analysis of uranium by 252Cf neutron-induced .gamma.-ray analysis or by direct photon analysis of uranium daughters.

The Determination of Molybdenum, Arsenic, and Uranium in Activated Carbon by X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry

The Determination of Molybdenum, Arsenic, and Uranium in Activated Carbon by X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry PDF Author:

Languages : en
Pages : 4

Book Description
A rapid, accurate, precise, and cost-effective method is described for the determination of uranium, molybdenum, and arsenic in activated carbon. Preparation of sample is minimal, involving only fine grinding of the carbon, the addition of a diluent and a wax-polystyrene binder, and pelletization of the resulting material. The briquettes are analysed with a fully automated X-ray fluorescence spectrometer, corrections being made for spectral-line overlap and background factors. The lower limit of detection was 1,5, 2,1, and 2,0 ug/g for U3O8, molybdenum, and arsenic respectively. The relative standard deviation did not exceed 0,016 for U3O8 up to 1250 ug/g, 0,068 for molybdenum up to 12,4 per cent, and 0,045 for arsenic up to 1,21 per cent. The accuracy of the method compares favourably with that of other methods.

The Determination of Uranium in Solids and Solutions by X-ray-fluorescence Spectrometry and a Background-ratio Method with a Derived Exponent

Book Description
A method is described for the determination of uranium in ores, siliceous materials, and solutions. As the matrices of all these materials can vary considerably, a modified background-ratio technique that uses an empirically determined exponent is used to correct for matrix effects, and yields linear calibration curves for U3O8 in briquette form of up to 1000 ppm. A background reading taken at 35,0 degrees C 20 was found to be less subject to interference than the background at 36,70 degrees C 20. The relative standard deviation for the method ranges from 0,03 to 0,04 for concentrations of U3O8 from 400 to 4000 ppm. Differences between determined and accepted values for reference samples were found to be less than 1 per cent over this range of concentrations. The calculation and evaluation of empirical exponents and the listing of a computer programme are given in the Appendices.
