Book Description
Excerpt from An Elementary Laboratory Course in Chemistry The course of practical chemistry outlined in this book is intended for students who are beginning the subject and at the same time taking a course of lectures on general chemistry. It was arranged primarily for the first year Arts course Of the University of Toronto, in which all science students - whether they are taking chemistry for two years only or whether they intend to Specialise in this subject - are required to do exactly the same work in their first year. It has been necessary therefore to keep in view the twofold object of giving the former class of students, in a very limited period, as fair an idea as possible of the general nature of chemistry, and at the same time, of providing the latter class with a good working basis for their subsequent course. Owing to the short time spent in the laboratory (two afternoons a week) many important principles have been necessarily omitted. The principles especially emphasised, however, are those which, on account Of their inherent difficulty or Of some traditional error in previous in struction, generally appear to give most trouble to the student. Pages : 220

Book Description
Excerpt from A Laboratory Manual of Medical Chemistry: Containing a Systematic Course of Experiments This volume is 'the outgrowth of several years of lab oratory instruction given medical students. The exe/rcises have been used in various forms by seven classes since the organization of the Medical Department. They have been gradually shaped by the peculiar needs of students of medi cine, and by personal visitation and careful study of the laboratories and methods of instruction in nearly all of the leading medical schools of the United States during the years 1893 - 6. Since there is not known to the author a small volume of modern, progressive laboratory exercises, covering the various branches of medical chemistry here presented, it has been decided to put these exercises into permanent form for the use of our own students. Laboratory Manual of Physical Chemistry (Classic Reprint)

Laboratory Manual of Physical Chemistry (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: Albert Watson Davison

Book Description
Excerpt from Laboratory Manual of Physical Chemistry In view of the fact that there are, as a rule, available for laboratory work' not more than two and one-half hours at a time, it has been found desirable to have the different pieces of apparatus set up beforehand by the instructor. To this end, each experiment is preceded by an exact list of the appa ratus and chemicals needed. It is believed that this will materi ally aid the instructor in assembling the necessary equipment. At the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the laboratory course immediately follows the completion of the theoretical course in physical chemistry, and students are thus prepared to take up the study of any experiment herein listed. It is therefore found practical to prepare the equipment for one or two units of each exercise before the laboratory course starts, and to shift the student successively from one experiment to another. In this way, an excessive amount of preparatory work is avoided. Many of the experiments have been in use in their present form at this Institute, and elsewhere, for a number of years, and have been found to be thoroughly satisfactory.
