Understanding 12-Lead EKGs

Understanding 12-Lead EKGs PDF Author: Brenda M. Beasley
Publisher: Pearson Higher Ed
ISBN: 1292035072
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 286

Book Description
Appropriate for Paramedic courses and courses in EKG Interpretation The value of over 30 years of combined EMS educational experience enables Brenda M. Beasley and Michael West to bring a unique and insightful approach to the topic of 12-lead EKGs and their interpretation. The authors have presented a complex yet vitally important subject in a comprehensive, straightforward, and easy-to-understand format. UNDERSTANDING 12-LEAD EKGS, 3/e serves a wide audience of health-care providers, including prehospital providers, nurses, physician assistants, respiratory therapists, and anyone requiring a thorough understanding of electrocardiography. I believe that this book fills a void in the subject matter of EKG interpretation. It demonstrates the ability to educate medical personnel who are new to the subject matter while providing a review to those who are more experienced. Using a reader-friendly writing style, the authors create a text that begins with the basics of EKG interpretation and then introduces a building-block approach to a more detailed discussion of this topic. Many illustrations, tables, and graphs are used to help highlight the important issues of each topic. Also, the reader will find the review questions at the end of each chapter useful in helping to solidify knowledge of salient issues.

A Practical Approach to EKG Interpretation

A Practical Approach to EKG Interpretation PDF Author: Raj K. Anand

Pages : 402

Book Description
During my 38 years of teaching experience, I have been repeatedly reminded of the difficulty which the students feel in comprehending the method to calculate the QRS axis. More importantly, they lack in their understanding of basic principles which form the very foundation of the approach to diagnosis of a rhythm in an electrocardiogram. These two areas have always been of great concern to me. Therefore, I have created a new method for calculating the QRS axis. This method is more efficient than the conventional approach, and easier to understand. The feedback from the students has been very encouraging. I share this new approach with the readers of this book, in chapter 11. Basic principles required for a better understanding of the approach to analysis of a rhythm in an EKG have been explained in detail in chapters 9 and 10. Every attempt has been made to make sure that the approach is practical and easy to understand. A series of 25 EKG tracings along with step by step guidance to reach the diagnosis has been provided on pages 275 - 326 for an in-depth understanding of the art of EKG interpretation. Another important observation concerns the lack of follow up practice of EKG interpretation by the students, due to lack of availability of time to sit down with a cardiologist on a regular basis. A follow up practice is crucial to maintaining the skill, after initial learning of how to read an EKG. This challenge has been met by providing a series of 72 EKG tracings along with interpretation for each tracing, at the back section of the book, whereby, the students can practice and improve their skill at their own convenient time on a regular basis.
