Computational Overview of Fluid Structure Interaction

Computational Overview of Fluid Structure Interaction PDF Author: Khaled Ghaedi
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 1839691751
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 172

Book Description
Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI), also known as engineering fluid mechanics, deals with mutual interaction between fluid and structural components. Fluid flow depending on the structural shape, motion, surface, and structural roughness, acts as mechanical forces on the structure. FSI can be seen everywhere in medicine, engineering, aerospace, the sciences, and even our daily life. This book provides the basic concept of fluid flow behavior in interaction with structures, which is crucial for almost all engineering disciplines. Along with the fundamental principles, the book covers a variety of FSI problems ranging from fundamentals of fluid mechanics to plasma physics, wind turbines and their turbulence, heat transfer, magnetohydrodynamics, and dam-reservoir systems.

Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences PDF Author: Wade H. Shafer
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1468451979
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 407

Book Description
Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 29 (thesis year 1984) a total of 12,637 theses titles from 23 Canadian and 202 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 29 reports theses submitted in 1984, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Convective Heat Transfer, Third Edition

Convective Heat Transfer, Third Edition PDF Author: Sadik Kakac
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1466583444
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 624

Book Description
Intended for readers who have taken a basic heat transfer course and have a basic knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and differential equations, Convective Heat Transfer, Third Edition provides an overview of phenomenological convective heat transfer. This book combines applications of engineering with the basic concepts of convection. It offers a clear and balanced presentation of essential topics using both traditional and numerical methods. The text addresses emerging science and technology matters, and highlights biomedical applications and energy technologies. What’s New in the Third Edition: Includes updated chapters and two new chapters on heat transfer in microchannels and heat transfer with nanofluids Expands problem sets and introduces new correlations and solved examples Provides more coverage of numerical/computer methods The third edition details the new research areas of heat transfer in microchannels and the enhancement of convective heat transfer with nanofluids. The text includes the physical mechanisms of convective heat transfer phenomena, exact or approximate solution methods, and solutions under various conditions, as well as the derivation of the basic equations of convective heat transfer and their solutions. A complete solutions manual and figure slides are also available for adopting professors. Convective Heat Transfer, Third Edition is an ideal reference for advanced research or coursework in heat transfer, and as a textbook for senior/graduate students majoring in mechanical engineering and relevant engineering courses.

Convective Heat Transfer, Second Edition

Convective Heat Transfer, Second Edition PDF Author: Sadik Kakaç
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780849399398
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 436

Book Description
Convective Heat Transfer presents an effective approach to teaching convective heat transfer. The authors systematically develop the topics and present them from basic principles. They emphasize physical insight, problem-solving, and the derivation of basic equations. To help students master the subject matter, they discuss the implementations of the basic equations and the workings of examples in detail. The material also includes carefully prepared problems at the end of each chapter. In this Second Edition, topics have been carefully chosen and the entire book has been reorganized for the best presentation of the subject matter. New property tables are included, and the authors dedicate an entire chapter to empirical correlations for a wide range of applications of single-phase convection. The book is excellent for helping students quickly develop a solid understanding of convective heat transfer.

Underground Spaces

Underground Spaces PDF Author: C. A. Brebbia
Publisher: WIT Press
ISBN: 1845641256
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 225

Book Description
It is a strongly held belief that population growth and the demand for better accommodation and leisure facilities, combined with a desire to improve the landscape, will result in the need to develop more underground spaces. This phenomenon, which started in countries subjected to extreme climates, is now becoming more widespread. Underground spaces are being utilized for a wide diversity of needs. They range from classical excavations to subway constructions; underground sports halls; power stations; waste repositories; underground cities, and many others. Their construction techniques are also varied, from open-air excavations to newly developed injection methods. The response of the underground structures on the imposed loadings depends on a number of parameters that sometimes are too complex or not fully understood, resulting in budget overruns or even failures that lead to loss of property or life. Such uncertain cases need to be addressed and engineers should be able to accurately predict the construction's performance throughout its construction and service life. The First International Conference on Underground Spaces discusses not only structural and environmental material characterization aspects but also the trends regarding the utilization of underground spaces. This book contains papers presented at the Meeting, and covers a wide range of topics including: Use of underground space for industry; Underground power stations; Toxic and nuclear waste repositories; Energy underground reservoirs; Underground sewerage plants; Waste storage and management; Road and railway tunnels; Utility tunnels; Fire defence; Defence against terrorist attacks.
