Book Description
"This report brings together under one cover the information available on an aluminum casting alloy designated M45 which consists primarily of aluminum admixed with copper, cadmium, magnesium, and titanium. M45 was designed specifically for use in cryogenic environments where materials of strength, ductility, and toughness are required. Because these properties of the material actually increase as temperatures decrease, M45 appears to be attractive for many applications at cryotemperatures."--Foreword.

Casting Aluminum Alloys PDF Author: Michael V Glazoff
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080550231
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 545

Book Description
Casting Aluminum Alloys summarizes research conducted at Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloy during many decades in part together with Alcoa Inc. The research covered areas of the structure, properties, thermal resistance, corrosion and fatigue of aluminum alloys in industrial manufacturing. Emphasis on interconnection among phase equilibria, thermodynamics and microstructure of alloys Systematic overview of all phase diagrams with Al that are important for the development of casting aluminium alloys Diagrams ("processing windows") of important technological properties such as castability, molten metal fluidity, tendency to hot pre-solidification cracking, porosity Mathematical models for alloy mechanical properties facilitating the down-selection of best prospect candidates for new alloy development New principles of design of eutectic casting aluminium alloys Examples of successful novel casting alloy development, including alloys for high-strength applications, alloys with transition metals, and novel alloys utilizing aluminium scrap

Book Description
A new aluminum-silicon alloy has been successfully developed at Marshall Space Flight Center that has a significant improvement in tensile strength at elevated temperatures (550 to 700 F). For instance, the new alloy shows in average tensile strength of at least 90 percent higher than the current 390 aluminum piston alloy tested at 500 F. Compared to conventional aluminum alloys, automotive engines using the new piston alloy will have improved gas mileage, and may produce less air pollution in order to meet the future U.S. automotive legislative requirements for low hydrocarbon emissions. The projected cost for this alloy is less than $0.95/lb, and it readily allows the automotive components to be cast at a high production volume with a low, fully accounted cost. It is economically produced by pouring molten metal directly into conventional permanent steel molds or die casting. Lee, J. A. Marshall Space Flight Center ...

Premium-quality Aluminum Castings

Premium-quality Aluminum Castings PDF Author: K. R. Grube
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aluminum alloys
Languages : en
Pages : 52

Book Description
Premium-quality castings are those which are guaranteed to show a specified high level of mechanical properties. The properties currently being achieved represent significant improvements over those which can be achieved in conventional aluminum-alloy castings and approach the properties currently obtainable in wrought aluminum alloys. These property advances are largely the result of improved casting technique and design. These castings are gradually finding acceptance and usage in aerospace applications, thanks to integrated efforts between the casting producers and their customers. (Author).
