The Marmoset Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates

The Marmoset Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates PDF Author: George Paxinos
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 9780124158184
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
The Marmoset Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates is the most comprehensive atlas of the brain of this animal available. The atlas is constructed in the style of The Rat Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates, the most-cited book in neuroscience. It represents a collaboration between world leaders in neuroanatomy of the primate cortex and subcortex. It will be an indispensible tool for neuroanatomists, behavioral neuroscientists, and molecular biologists trying to understand the primate brain. ENDORSED BY SOCIETY FOR BRAIN MAPPING AND THERAPEUTICS (SBMT) - SBMT is a non-profit society organized for the purpose of encouraging basic and clinical scientists who are interested in areas of Brain Mapping, engineering, stem cell, nanotechnology, imaging and medical device to improve the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients afflicted with neurological disorders. This society promotes the public welfare and improves patient care through the translation of new technologies/therapies into life saving diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The Society is focused in breaking boundaries of science, technology, medicine, art and healthcare policy. Architectonics of the Human Telencephalic Cortex

Architectonics of the Human Telencephalic Cortex PDF Author: H. Braak
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9783642815249
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
This is a timely opus. Most of us now are too young to remember the unpleasant ring of a polemic between those who produced "hair-splitting" parcellations of the cortex (to paraphrase one of O. Vogt's favourite expressions) and those who saw the cortex as a homogeneous matrix sus taining the reverberations of EEG waves (to paraphrase Bailey and von Bonin). One camp accused the other of producing bogus preparations with a paint brush, and the other way around the accusation was that of poor eye-sight. Artefacts of various sorts were invoked to explain the opponent's error, ranging from perceptual effects (Mach bands crispening the areal borders) to poor fixation supposedly due to perfusion too soon (!) after death. I have heard most of this directly from the protagonists' mouths. The polemic was not resolved but it has mellowed with age and ultimately faded out. I was relieved to see that Professor Braak elegantly avoids dis cussion of an extrememist tenet, that of "hair-sharp" areal boundaries, which makes little sense in developmental biology and is irrelevant to neurophysiology. It was actually detrimental to cortical neuroanatomy, since its negation led to the idea that structurally distinct areas are not at all existent. Yet, nobody would deny the reality of five fingers on one hand even if the detailed assignment of every epidermal cell to one finger or another is obviously impossible.

Birth Trauma and Perinatal Brain Damage

Birth Trauma and Perinatal Brain Damage PDF Author: Vasily Vasilievich Vlasyuk
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319934414
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 283

Book Description
This book focuses on traumatic birth injuries, predominantly of the skull and brain, as well as hemorrhagic and ischemic disorders of cerebral circulation in fetuses and newborns, providing information on each condition’s classification, incidence, etiology and pathogenesis, pathomorphology, clinic, diagnostics, prognosis, and complications. It discusses the configuration (molding) of the head, venous congestion, displacements of cranial bones, ruptures of the cerebellar tentorium during labor, and the compression of the skull and brain damage caused by obstetric operations and asynclitic insertion of the head, while also describing the importance of the periosteal stagnation of the skull to assess the delivery and explanation of tentorium tears. Intracranial hemorrhages are considered in detail, taking into account the role of the traumatic factor in their occurrence and hypoxic-ischemic brain lesions (periventricular leukomalacia, selective neuronal necrosis, multicystic encephalomalacia, etc.). Lastly, it offers the world’s first explanation of why tentorium tears occur most frequently in the left half, providing an original classification of damaged tentoria, subarachnoid and intraventricular hemorrhages, and the degree of configuration of the head in childbirth. Given the depth and breadth of its coverage, the book offers an essential resource for neonatologists, obstetricians-gynecologists, perinatologists, pediatric neurologists, pathologists, pediatricians, forensic experts and neuroimaging professionals.
