John Ulrich Spahr (1709-1770) was born in Putmiga about two miles from Basel, Switzerland. He descended from an old Swiss-german family. He married Margaret Seyler Spahr and they were the parents of twelve children, two of whom were born in America. In 1749 the family immigrated to America and settled in Pennsylvania where they lived at least twelve years.
