Models and Methods Applicable to Corps of Engineers Urban Studies

Models and Methods Applicable to Corps of Engineers Urban Studies PDF Author: Waterways Experiment Station (U.S.)
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : City planning
Languages : en
Pages : 432

Book Description
The report is basically a source book for individuals who are actually concerned with the problem of constructing alternative plans for developing urban areas. It reviews the methods and computer models that are currently available to the planner or engineer for developing water and related land resources. These reviews discuss the availability and usefulness of several models; give a brief technical description of each model, including the input data required; and indicate the amount and type of computer hardware needed to use each model. The report is directed mainly toward water related problems. Thus, most of the methods discussed deal with urban drainage, wastewater management, flood routing, reservoir operation, water supply, flood zoning, and the social and economic aspects associated with these areas. Flood Risk Simulation

Flood Risk Simulation PDF Author: Flávio César Borba Mascarenhas
Publisher: Witpress
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 464

Book Description
An up-to-date text on the simulation of flood risk, this book begins by presenting the main concepts related to one-dimensional mathematical modelling of floods. Detailed mathematical models for solving free surface unsteady varied flow equations are featured. There are also sections on practical problems, techniques for parameter identification including optimisation methods, the routing of dam-break waves and case study results. The second part is devoted to flood hazard and inundation analysis. A runoff model and an inundation flow model are given while inundation analysis in urban areas, encompassing the city area and sewerage models, is discussed. Low-lying river basins are considered with particular reference to the city of Kyoto in Japan. Finally flood problems both in rural and urban basins are highlighted. A flow cell model is presented as an alternative to simulate these problems and some cases illustrating its use are provided.

Response of Flood Events to Land Use and Climate Change

Response of Flood Events to Land Use and Climate Change PDF Author: Azadeh Ramesh
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400755279
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 261

Book Description
This book is an original and novel contribution to flood hazard assessment, climate change and land use change and is intended to serve both as an effective source of information and a valuable basis for priority setting and further technical, financial and political decisions regarding flood hazard assessment. The study area is located on the floodplain of the Ubaye River in the Barcelonnette area, part of the Alpes de Haute Provence in southeast France. The book offers a comparative overview of the major challenges faced when dealing with flood hazards. The research presented is intended to promote a deeper understanding of how climate change and land use change processes have evolved from past to present, and how they affect the flow regime of the Ubaye River based on sound and reproducible scientific arguments. The methodology implemented ranges from remote sensing interpretation to hydrodynamic modeling and includes the application of spatial and statistical modeling. The results of this research provide essential information for policymaking, decision-making support and flood hazard planning in the Barcelonnette area.

Methods and Techniques in Urban Engineering

Methods and Techniques in Urban Engineering PDF Author: Armando Carlos De Pina Filho
Publisher: IntechOpen
ISBN: 9789533070964
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 270

Book Description
A series of urban problems such as dwelling deficit, infrastructure problems, inefficient services, environmental pollution, etc. can be observed in many countries. Urban Engineering searches solutions for these problems using a conjoined system of planning, management and technology. A great deal of research is devoted to application of instruments, methodologies and tools for monitoring and acquisition of data, based on the factual experience and computational modeling. The objective of the book was to present works related to urban automation, geographic information systems (GIS), analysis, monitoring and management of urban noise, floods and transports, information technology applied to the cities, tools for urban simulation, social monitoring and control of urban policies, sustainability, etc., demonstrating methods and techniques applied in Urban Engineering. Considering all the interesting information presented, the book can offer some aid in creating new research, as well as incite the interest of people for this area of study, since Urban Engineering is fundamental for city development.
