Book Description
Excerpt from A Manual of Pharmacology The present edition of this manual has been to a great extent rewritten. This change was rendered necessary by the increase of knowledge of the mode of action of drugs which has been obtained during the last few years. Several new tracings and figures have been introduced into the present volume either to explain new facts or the modern interpretation of facts long ascertained. My best thanks are due to Professor Ransom and Dr. Inchley for valuable suggestions and criticisms. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. Pharmacology in 7 Days for Medical Students
Author: Fazal-I-Akbar Danish
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1138031143
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 160
Book Description
Pharmacological knowledge among medical students can have a very short 'half life': students often fail not because they have failed to study, but because they have been unable to retain key knowledge and reproduce it in an exam setting. This book takes an alternative route to the conventional approach of comprehensively exploring each individual drug and its features: not only can such an approach overwhelm and make knowledge retention difficult, but the current exam format makes questions structured in this way unlikely anyway. Instead of aiming to be completely comprehensive, it examines drugs systematically by classifications, mechanisms of action, therapeutic uses and side effects, enabling students to gain the distilled, functional grasp of pharmacology that their exams actually demand quickly and clearly.

A Manual of Pharmacology and Its Applications to Therapeutics and Toxicology (Classic Reprint)
Author: TORALD. SOLLMANN
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780266963738
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
Excerpt from A Manual of Pharmacology and Its Applications to Therapeutics and Toxicology The volume can, therefore, serve both for study and reference. There may be some question as to the general advisability of combining text-books and reference books; but in Pharmacology this appears to be necessary, since every student may need more detailed information at any time. These objects necessitated a complete rearrangement, and fairly extensive enlargement of the book, and as the work progressed, it appeared plain that it meant not merely a revision, but the making of an entirely new book. With this enlargement of the text, it became necessary to practice the utmost economy of matter, in order to bring the contents within a single volume. This and other considerations prompted the separation of the 'laboratory Guide In Pharmacology, which will be issued as a companion volume. The illustrations have also been omitted wherever the text could be understood without them. A further economy was effected by cur tailing the discussion of the drugs of slight importance, thus leaving more space for the relatively few really important drugs. This is in line with the modern movement for the restriction of the Materia Medica. I am greatly indebted to my friend, Dr. R. A. Hatcher, for valuable help in reading the proofs. Schatzberg's Manual of Clinical Psychopharmacology
Author: Alan F. Schatzberg
Publisher: American Psychiatric Pub
ISBN: 1615372601
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 838
Book Description
Schatzberg's Manual of Clinical Psychopharmacology is a meticulously researched, yet down-to-earth guide for practitioners prescribing psychotropic medications to individuals with psychiatric disorders or symptoms mandating treatment. The ninth edition offers up-to-date information on current drugs, interactions, side effects, and dosing guidelines, and retains the strengths and features that have made it a standard text for trainees and practicing clinicians. The authors also include a new chapter on important developments in laboratory-guided pharmacotherapy, including pharmacogenomic testing, neurocognitive testing, quantitative EEG, and neuroimaging. Although the book's primary purpose is to provide the reader-practitioner with basic and practical information regarding the many classes of psychiatric medications, the authors stress that understanding how to select and prescribe psychotropic medications does not obviate the basic need to comprehensively evaluate and understand psychiatric patients. Accordingly, the book draws on the authors' clinical experience, as well as on the scientific literature, resulting in an accessible, yet rigorous text. Features that have helped cement this book's reputation include: Coverage is not limited to long-standing and newly approved medications, but also includes agents that are likely to receive approval from the FDA in the near future, ensuring that the reader stays up-to-date. References are provided for key statements, and each chapter is then followed by a list of selected relevant articles and books for readers who want to go beyond the material presented, making for a leaner, more reader-friendly guide. Dozens of summary tables with key information on classes of psychotropics function as quick-reference guides, promoting learning and serving as convenient resources for overloaded clinicians. The appendix offers two kinds of suggested readings. The first, for clinicians, is invaluable to trainees, while the second, for patients and families, helps point clinicians to books aimed at a lay audience to supplement information provided to patients. Staying abreast of both new medications and promising treatment protocols is essential in this rapidly evolving field. Schatzberg's Manual of Clinical Psychopharmacology delivers authoritative information in a friendly, collegial style, ensuring that both students and practicing clinicians are equipped to provide a superior standard of care.
