Book Description
A Logical Case for God and Creation first takes the reader through a logical look at whether it is reasonable to believe that the Bible is true and that God exists. Then looking at the universe-including the existence of billions of galaxies and trillions of stars, the planets that make up the universe and our solar system-the author argues it is not possible for the universe to have come about by accident or as a result of an accidental "big bang." Then considering our marvelous bodies, the massive number of other species on this earth, the beauty of the flora and fauna, and the tremendous resources available to us, he demonstrates that it is not probable or possible for all that exists to have evolved over millions of years, or come about without a design or a designer. The author points out, "To say that we evolved is an insult to our God given, human ability to reason, and to our intellectual capacity to logically evaluate the truth." Finally, considering the harmonious nature of the universe, the author further demonstrates that it is not logical to believe that the trillions upon trillions of objects being propelled through space at such incredible speeds could have accidentally fallen into such a harmonious and orchestrated relationship to each other. Absent these objects having been purposely put into a predetermined, perpetual path in our incredible universe by an intelligent designer, logic would suggest that the universe would be in complete chaos without a design.

The Case for God

The Case for God PDF Author: Karen Armstrong
Publisher: Knopf Canada
ISBN: 0307372952
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 432

Book Description
From the bestselling author of A History of God and The Great Transformation comes a balanced, nuanced understanding of the role religion plays in human life and the trajectory of faith in modern times. Why has God become incredible? Why is it that atheists and theists alike now think and speak about God in a way that veers so profoundly from the thinking of our ancestors? Moving from the Paleolithic Age to the present, Karen Armstrong details the lengths to which humankind has gone to experience a sacred reality that it called God, Brahman, Nirvana, Allah, or Dao. She examines the diminished impulse toward religion in our own time when a significant number of people either want nothing to do with God or question the efficacy of faith. With her trademark depth of knowledge and profound insight, Armstrong elucidates how the changing world has necessarily altered the importance of religion at both societal and individual levels. And she makes a powerful, convincing argument for structuring a faith that speaks to the needs of our dangerously polarized age.

Patterns of Awareness

Patterns of Awareness PDF Author: Lisa Johnson
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780692596036

Languages : en
Pages : 114

Book Description
Many people think there is nothing logical about God because God requires faith, whereas logic requires strict principles of validity. Remarkably, both statements are true. It does require faith to believe in God and logic does require strict principles of validity which do not lend themselves well to making the case for the existence of the kind of God we have been told to believe in. That god requires a huge leap of faith and makes a mockery of strict principles of validity. However, there is one tiny problem with the god we have been told to believe in. He does not exist. The god we have been told to believe in is not the God the Bible's Old Testament prophets describe, nor is he the God Jesus very clearly discusses in his teachings. That is the only God I know and have faith in and that is the God for which I make the logical case in this book based on science, Jesus and the Bible. I am able to make the logical case for God because God is the label we have given to a universal consciousness of creation that relies on logical principles and rules in order to create. The fields of math and science have and are revealing these universal laws of nature to us and although we may not consciously be aware of it, we use them daily in creating patterns of thought that either promote our health and well-being or destroy it. What I discovered is that we can never really know the true (what the Bible refers to as our consciousness of good) without likewise knowing the false (what the Bible refers to as our consciousness of evil). Together, they comprise our consciousness of good and evil. Given the state of our present human consciousness, it seems like we have to directly experience the very palpable results of human evil before we our able to ascertain the divinity of our human nature. I know for a fact that I would have continued stumbling through my life deprived of the truth about good and evil if my eyes has not been forcibly opened by a group of workplace colleagues who made me acquire an entirely different perspective about the world and my place in it. As I show in this book, our inability to embrace the full range of our human nature has blinded us to our human potentiality because it limits our focus of what is possible by keeping our minds contained within the status quo box of an existence that has been defined for us by other human beings. Breaking out of the existence they define can be hazardous to our mental, emotional, financial and/or physical health as I found out when I went against a management team in my workplace by simply telling them the truth. What was the worst experience of my life, however; became the wake-up call I needed to snap me out my own ego consciousness which had me accepting the limitations presented to me without even being aware that I was limited. Although it was not a path I would have chosen for myself, I was forced to discover what life is like outside the box after losing my job, husband, house, livelihood and mental and emotional health. I was unwittingly thrown out of the known airspace of predictability and security into the unknown airspace of reality where I was forced to reevaluate every assumption I ever held if I was to get back my will to live. It was there where I found God. Mind is infinite. It is the eternal aspect of our human being and the eternal aspect of our being is all the Bible and Jesus are concerned with. Once I began focusing exclusively on the mind - the creator of our emotions and thoughts - I was able to untangle much of the confusion, complexity and falsehoods that both religion and science have thrown into the mix and it became fairly straightforward in making the logical case for God. The only faith required was in my own ability to keep my mind free and clear of any assumptions and conclusions that were not aligned with logical statements of truth and fact.

The Case for a Creator

The Case for a Creator PDF Author: Lee Strobel
Publisher: Zondervan
ISBN: 0310565693
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 361

Book Description
Discover the astonishing evidence for intelligent design in this New York Times bestselling book by award-winning journalist Lee Strobel. "My road to atheism was paved by science . . . but, ironically, so was my later journey to God," Strobel says. During his academic years, Lee Strobel became convinced that God was obsolete, a belief that colored his journalism career. Science had made the idea of a Creator irrelevant--or so Strobel thought. But today science points in a different direction. A diverse and impressive body of research has increasingly supported the conclusion that the universe was intelligently designed. At the same time, Darwinism has faltered in the face of concrete facts and hard reason. Has science discovered God? At the very least, it's giving faith an immense boost, as new findings emerge about the incredible complexity of our universe. Join Strobel as he reexamines the theories that once led him away from God. Through his compelling and highly readable account, you'll encounter the mind-stretching discoveries from cosmology, cellular biology, DNA research, astronomy, physics, and human consciousness that present compelling evidence in The Case for a Creator. Also available: The Case for a Creator small group video study and study guide, Spanish edition, kids' edition, student edition, and more.

Strugglebook

Strugglebook PDF Author: Robert Thornborough
Publisher: Robert Thornborough
ISBN: 1439202451
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 263

Book Description
"Strugglebook: A Logical Search for the Truth of GOD" explores the probability for the existence of God based primarily on the logic derived from science. While it addresses issues applicable to theology, it is not a theological work. There are literally hundreds of books on this subject, most detailing a standard set of arguments. This book follows that pattern for the first part but then extends itself into a series of coalescing arguments built on the latest science, all of which results in a unique presentation on the subject. Forming a conclusion respecting the reality of God on something as cold as logic is contrary to approaches generally considered acceptable to religious organizations that favor perhaps more ephemeral means based on redemption and faith. Those approaches based on other than logic have proven very successful for many individuals. That notwithstanding, the author is representative of that very large group of people who live in environments replete with corporate missions, budget building and spreadsheets, strength, weakness, opportunity and threat exercises, performance yields, compensation management, management by objective, measuring outcomes, and mini-MBA courses. The resulting objectivity built through vocation, results for many individuals, including the author, in a need to question the rationale behind faith and God. This book is the record of a search for the reality of God consistent with satisfying the needs dictated by the logic often demanded by the modern mind. Do world and personal events result in a questioning of your faith? Do you wonder about a God that could allow 9/11 or the deaths of tens of thousands in a cyclone? Have you watched as someone you love suffers, and as a result, questioned the very existence of God? Have the truths of modern science served to displace your belief in God? Does your working life consumed with spreadsheets, schedules, logical analysis, objectives, investment returns, getting the job done on time, and all the other appendages of working life impose an atmosphere that works against belief in God? Do you feel unsure about sharing your beliefs with others because you may be ridiculed? Have you been exposed to the views of Richard Dawkins through his book The God Delusion, or other well known atheists who attempt seemingly with some success to use science to prove God doesn't exist and in so doing, relegate your beliefs as unworthy? These questions and situations imposed themselves on the author of this book, an educator and computer application designer who decided to take a year out of his life and find the answers. This book chronicles his search for the truth of God. Calling on history and using the very latest scientific knowledge, coupled with related philosophy, and sometimes delivered somewhat irreverently, the book delves into the issues, presenting positive and dissenting views respecting the existence of God and then argues the case from the data presented. The reader shares the full rationale for decisions made.

Why God Created the World

Why God Created the World PDF Author: Ben Stevens
Publisher: Tyndale House
ISBN: 1612917658
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 173

Book Description
It is entirely possible that God could have existed without the universe, and without humans, for all eternity. But for some reason, He decided to create anyway. What inspired Him to start the human story in the first place, and how should the answer to that question affect the way we view our lives? Few Christians ever stop to seriously consider these deepest-of-all deep questions. Jonathan Edwards explains, in his original dissertation: God’s inherent predisposition to spread out His truth, goodness, and beauty motivates everything He does. So, His decision to create our universe was motivated not by a desire or need for us, but by a desire to glorify Himself. Ben Stevens’ remarkable new adaptation brings Edwards’ powerful arguments to life in fresh, contemporary language. In addition, thought-provoking questions for discussion or reflection invite readers to engage with the concepts and begin to apply them.
