Living Space

Living Space PDF Author: Michael E. Veal
Publisher: Wesleyan University Press
ISBN: 0819500895
Category : Music
Languages : en
Pages : 384

Book Description
Living Space: John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Free Jazz, from Analog to Digital fuses biography and style history in order to illuminate the music of two jazz icons, while drawing on the discourses of photography and digital architecture to fashion musical insights that may not be available through the traditional language of jazz analysis. The book follows the controversial trajectories of two jazz legends, emerging from the 1959 album Kind of Blue. Coltrane's odyssey through what became known as "free jazz" brought stylistic (r)evolution and chaos in equal measure. Davis's spearheading of "jazz-rock fusion" opened a door through which jazz's ongoing dialogue with the popular tradition could be regenerated, engaging both high and low ideas of creativity, community, and commerce. Includes 42 illustrations.

Land Use and Living Space

Land Use and Living Space PDF Author: Robin H. Best
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1040096905
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 196

Book Description
Few people have any coherent idea of whether the shifts taking place in land-use structure are critically important for us all, or whether they are largely immaterial. This book (originally published in 1981) by setting down a more quantified and carefully researched statement and appraisal of land-use structure and change than had previously been attempted, shows that much of the conventional wisdom about land use can be shown to be incorrect or very suspect. Land-use planning has often been built on the insecure foundation of myth rather than reality, the author maintains. Land Use and Living Space shows that much of the perceived land problem in Britain is not substantiated by evidence on the ground and concludes that there is no real ‘problem’ at all. This analysis was a welcome contribution to the debate during the 1970 and 80s about the true state of land use in Britain, Europe and the USA.

Book Description
Neufert's Architects' Data is an essential reference for the initial design and planning of a building project. It provides, in one concise volume, the core information needed to form the framework for the more detailed design and planning of any building project. Most illustrations are dimensioned and each building type includes plans, sections, site layouts and design details. An extensive bibliography and a detailed set of metric/ imperial conversion tables are included. Since it was first published in Germany in 1936, Ernst Neufert's handbook has been progressively revised and updated through 39 editions and many translations. This fourth English language edition is translated from the 39th German edition, and represents a major new edition for an international, English speaking readership. Reviews of the Previous Edition: "Neufert's Architects' Data was the first book I bought when I started my studies in architecture. Mochlos IA

Mochlos IA PDF Author: Jeffrey S. Soles
Publisher: INSTAP Academic Press
ISBN: 1623030153
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 315

Book Description
Mochlos is a Minoan town set on a fine harbour at the eastern side of the Gulf of Mirabello, in northeast Crete. It was first inhabited during the Neolithic period, and it had an important Minoan settlement during most of the Bronze Age. Mochlos I, to be published in three volumes, presents the results of the excavations in the Neopalatial levels of the Artisans' Quarter, and at the farmhouse at Chalinomouri. The Artisans' Quarter consisted of a series of workshops with evidence for pottery manufacture, metalworking, and weaving. Chalinomouri, a semi-independent farmhouse with strong connections to the nearby island settlement at Mochlos, was engaged in craftwork and food processing as well as agriculture. This volume, Mochlos IA, presents the process of excavation and the architecture; volume IB presents the pottery, and volume IC will publish the small finds.
