Culicipedia
Author: Ralph E Harbach
Publisher: CABI
ISBN: 1786399059
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 400
Book Description
This unique volume is a comprehensive compilation of all scientific names introduced at all levels of classification within the Culicipedia family since the official start of zoological nomenclature. The work is largely a lexicon aimed at being historical and informative as well as nomenclatural and bibliographic. Unlike catalogues, it contains sections devoted separately to the groups of names regulated by the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, the species, genus and family groups, as well as sections concerned with names derived from personal and geographical names and other sources. In addition to insights into the history of mosquito classification, attention given to the formation, Latinization and derivation of names makes the work a crucial contribution to mosquito science

A Handbook of the Gnats Or Mosquitoes
Author: Geo M. Giles
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780266244325
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 582
Book Description
Excerpt from A Handbook of the Gnats or Mosquitoes: Giving the Anatomy and Life History of the Culicidae Together With Description of All Species Noticed Up to the Present Date There are some hundreds of drawings in the new plates and figures which, with a few exceptions, have been drawn by the writer himself from camera lucida outlines, and it is needless to say that all these changes have taken much time, but were inevitable, if the new issue was not to be rendered almost immediately obsolete by the appear ance of the Monograph. To facilitate comparison of neighbouring species, the figures illustrating them have been, as far as possible, grouped into plates, instead of interspersing them in the text. As to the question of which of the older names are mere redescriptions of one and the same species - the synonymy of the group - I have followed implicitly the new Monograph, and it must be understood that, in relegating any given name to this category, I merely reproduce, and desire to imply no personal opinion as to the justness or otherwise of the conclusions involved. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. We do, however, repair the vast majority of imperfections successfully; any imperfections that remain are intentionally left to preserve the state of such historical works.
