A Guide to Determining the Optimal Gradation of Concrete Aggregates

A Guide to Determining the Optimal Gradation of Concrete Aggregates PDF Author: Per Just Andersen
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780309052689
Category : Aggregates (Building materials)
Languages : en
Pages : 200

Book Description
The proportioning of fine and coarse aggregates in the concrete mix has an important effect on the properties of both fresh and hardened concrete. This guide provides a means of determining the optimal gradation of fine and coarse aggregates for use in the concrete mix using a set of tables. The tables are based on a computer model for the theoretical packing of spherical particles which takes into account their size and specific gravity. Use of these tables in conjunction with the American Concrete Institute's ACI Standard Practice 211.1 should help produce a more workable mix, and a better consolidated hardened concrete with decreased permeability and improved durability.

Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0128178558
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 726

Book Description
Smart Nanoconcretes and Cement-Based Materials: Properties, Modelling and Applications explores the fundamental concepts and applications of smart nanoconcretes with self-healing, self-cleaning, photocatalytic, antibacterial, piezoelectrical, heating and conducting properties and how they are used in modern high-rise buildings, hydraulic engineering, highways, tunnels and bridges. This book is an important reference source for materials scientists and civil engineers who are looking to enhance the properties of smart nanomaterials to create stronger, more durable concrete. Explores the mechanisms through which active agents are released from nanocontainers inside concrete Shows how embedded smart nanosensors, including carbon cement-based smart sensors and micro/nano strain-sensors, are used to increase concrete performance Discusses the major challenges of integrating smart nanomaterials into concrete composites

Advances in Asphalt Materials

Advances in Asphalt Materials PDF Author: Shin-Che Huang
Publisher: Woodhead Publishing
ISBN: 0081002718
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 493

Book Description
The urgent need for infrastructure rehabilitation and maintenance has led to a rise in the levels of research into bituminous materials. Breakthroughs in sustainable and environmentally friendly bituminous materials are certain to have a significant impact on national economies and energy sustainability. This book will provide a comprehensive review on recent advances in research and technological developments in bituminous materials. Opening with an introductory chapter on asphalt materials and a section on the perspective of bituminous binder specifications, Part One covers the physiochemical characterisation and analysis of asphalt materials. Part Two reviews the range of distress (damage) mechanisms in asphalt materials, with chapters covering cracking, deformation, fatigue cracking and healing of asphalt mixtures, as well as moisture damage and the multiscale oxidative aging modelling approach for asphalt concrete. The final section of this book investigates alternative asphalt materials. Chapters within this section review such aspects as alternative binders for asphalt pavements such as bio binders and RAP, paving with asphalt emulsions and aggregate grading optimization. Provides an insight into advances and techniques for bituminous materials Comprehensively reviews the physicochemical characteristics of bituminous materials Investigate asphalt materials on the nano-scale, including how RAP/RAS materials can be recycled and how asphalt materials can self-heal and rejuvenator selection
