Book Description
"The unconsolidated Quaternary aquifer which underlies the Great Bend Prairie in south-central Kansas has undergone a significant increase in irrigation development during the past several decades. In 1974, about 1,160 irrigation wells withdrew roughly 270,000 acre-feet of groundwater from the unconfined aquifer. Optimal allocation of irrigation withdrawals over the long term will require a fundamental understanding of the dynamics of the groundwater aquifer. With this goal in mind, the Geohydrology Section of the Kansas Geological Survey contracted with the Water Resources Division of the U.S. Geological Survey to simulate flow in the aquifer using finite difference algorithms developed from continuity principles"--Summary

Modeling Groundwater Flow in Sloping Aquifers
Author: Philip Mzava
Publisher: LAP Lambert Academic Publishing

Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 108
Book Description
This manuscript is derived from the Author s Masters thesis, it presents coupling the applications of Geographic Information Systems, Analytical and Numerical methods to model groundwater flow in the sloping aquifers; Ogallala Aquifer-Kansas, central USA case study, using a stepping base approach. The study also led to identification of surface water and groundwater interaction points and quantities during the pre-development conditions, and the possible points of disappeared streams in the study region.
