Book Description
This curated collection of musings about Disney by writer and digital creator DisneyCicerone is infused with obscure history that will inspire you to see the parks you love in a new way, encouraging you to slow down, look closer, and see your own story reflected in every magical moment. Is there anything better than that moment when you walk into the Disney parks in the morning? The early light gives everything an optimistic glow, and the anticipation of what’s ahead makes your feet light and your heart lighter. And seeing the castle for the first time… there are no words that adequately describe that feeling. So what makes it so magical for us? Why does it bring us so much joy? Because it’s personal. It’s the story of our lives, laid out in a way where we can see it all at once. In our minds, we are always looking for a glimpse of the magic. The innocence and simple joys of childhood, the nostalgia of remembering yesterday, the hope of tomorrow, and what could be, all wound up in a two-block stroll on resilient asphalt (that is, asphalt concrete mixed with rubber to prevent tired feet.) We know beyond a shadow of a doubt that this day will be a good one. We don ears and outfits to highlight the fact that on this day we choose joy above all else. I can think of no other place on this planet that gives so many people this gift of reprieve, hope, and optimism. While there are (certainly) a few bad moments in the parks here and there (cranky kids, long waits, endless crowds, and hot summer days, to name a few), none seem to lessen that glorious stroll down Main Street U.S.A. and what it represents in the hearts of all Disney fans. What it means for you and what it means for me may be different, but it still resonates for us all. This is why Disney people “get” each other. We have experienced the magic and the wonder that is uniquely Disney. We have all waved unabashedly like a 5-year-old at our favorite characters, savored a classic dole whip to the tune of 220 birds singing rhythmically, and breathed in the sight of a perfectly reflected castle. We remember moments with family, times when we were on that one ride when it broke down, and days splashing through puddles and making even the rainiest day the best day ever. We remember. We make new memories. But mostly, we are just there—participating in the magic, being part of it all. And when we can’t walk under that entrance plaque, we seek out those who can, following their adventures with equal parts envy and delight. In our minds, we are always looking for a glimpse of the magic.

Category : Self-Help
Languages : en

Book Description
How to Be Like is a “character biography” series: biographies that also draw out important lessons from the life of their subjects. In this new book—by far the most exhaustive in the series—Pat Williams tackles one of the most influential people in recent history. While many recent biographies of Walt Disney have reveled in the negative, this book takes an honest but positive look at the man behind the myth. For the first time, the book pulls together all the various strands of Disney’s life into one straightforward, easy-to-read tale of imagination, perseverance, and optimism. Far from a preachy or oppressive tome, this book scrapes away the minutiae to capture the true magic of a brilliant maverick. Key Features This is for the millions of Disney fans—those who admire his artistry or his business savvy or the products of his namesake company. The tone and style of the book will capture the imagination of younger readers, especially teens, in the same way as How to Be Like Mike. Support within the Disney world includes the daughter and grandson of Walt Disney; nephew and former vice chairman Roy Disney; and numerous Disney insiders who are already spreading the word.

ISBN: 9781578632619
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 178

Book Description
"Gypsies are justly famed for their psychic powers and the ability to curse or bring good luck to those that cross their path." A sparkling compilation of secrets passed down from one generation to the next, Gypsy Magic offers readers simple techniques for harnessing "zee energy" to bring about good luck, health, wealth, happiness, and love. Author Patrinella Cooper draws upon her Romany heritage and tells readers "how the Gypsy tradition helped me to develop my own power, which in turn enables me to help other people, through magic and fortune-telling." Perfect for anyone interested in the interplay between nature and divination, this introduction to the gypsy traditions shows how to unlock the power of palmistry, tarot, dreams, tea leaves, and, of course, crystal balls. In addition to sharing time-tested natural remedies and healing herbs, Cooper shares her traveler's insight into reading nature's signs and omens, from stars and seasons to birds and plants. Gypsy Magic also reveals how to attract good luck with charms, protect against curses, harness the power of the planets, and weave simple spells.

The Year of Magical Thinking

The Year of Magical Thinking PDF Author: Joan Didion
Publisher: Vintage
ISBN: 0307279723
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 240

Book Description
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • NATIONAL BOOK AWARD WINNER • From one of America’s iconic writers, a stunning book of electric honesty and passion that explores an intensely personal yet universal experience: a portrait of a marriage—and a life, in good times and bad—that will speak to anyone who has ever loved a husband or wife or child. Several days before Christmas 2003, John Gregory Dunne and Joan Didion saw their only daughter, Quintana, fall ill with what seemed at first flu, then pneumonia, then complete septic shock. She was put into an induced coma and placed on life support. Days later—the night before New Year’s Eve—the Dunnes were just sitting down to dinner after visiting the hospital when John Gregory Dunne suffered a massive and fatal coronary. In a second, this close, symbiotic partnership of forty years was over. Four weeks later, their daughter pulled through. Two months after that, arriving at LAX, she collapsed and underwent six hours of brain surgery at UCLA Medical Center to relieve a massive hematoma. This powerful book is Didion’ s attempt to make sense of the “weeks and then months that cut loose any fixed idea I ever had about death, about illness ... about marriage and children and memory ... about the shallowness of sanity, about life itself.

Petty Magic

Petty Magic PDF Author: Camille DeAngelis
Publisher: Open Road Media
ISBN: 1497680794
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 259

Book Description
Evelyn Harbinger is a heck of a lot older than she looks. At 149 years of age, Eve can still iron out the wrinkles on a Saturday night, turning heads and taking more than phone numbers as the foxy, dark-haired girl she used to be. She and her sisters have spent the better part of their lives using their powers for only the highest good—Eve herself spied for the Allies in Paris and Berlin—but in their golden years, the beldames are free to enjoy themselves however they please. When Eve meets Justin at her favorite curiosity shop, though, her games are over. Justin looks and acts uncannily like Jonah, her partner on the most dangerous mission of her career—and the great love of her life. Experts in espionage, Eve and Jonah gave up their one chance at happiness to advance the Allied cause, and no man has measured up ever since. Justin is unsuspecting but equally smitten, and Eve is much too headstrong to listen to the common-sense warnings of her coven. Meanwhile, another beldame has accused Eve’s sister Helena of killing her own husband sixty years before, and Eve, disguised as her younger self, spends more and more time with Justin to take her mind off the growing pile of evidence that suggests her sister isn't the pure-hearted matriarch she appears to be. Eve knows her family has every reason to disapprove and that falling in love with an ordinary man can only end in despair, but she can’t give up the boy who might be Jonah—because this time, she just might be able to keep him. A delightfully romantic adventure set between a supernatural version of present-day New York City and the epic backdrop of World War II, Petty Magic proves that the real fun starts when beldames and mortal men dare to fall in love.
