A Dollar a Day Without Being There PDF Author: Frank J Mueller
Publisher: iUniverse
ISBN: 1491793139

Pages : 204

Book Description
About 1991, I was living in a spare room in my sister's house. She was having a difficult time and would soon be selling her house. I had worked so hard and for so long, and I found myself having no money, plus there were rumors of big layoffs in the oil industry. My best estimate was ninety days, and I would have to claim my corner of the I-10 overpass to beg for food. It was an undesirable situation, but it wasn't fair. My whole entire thinking process had to be wrong. I began writing my autobiography before I started giving my money talk, while teaching safety training classes for oilfield workers, and I wanted to write both books, so I just combined them. This book was written for my children and grandchildren, but if anyone else finds it interesting, then good. I just don't know why God chose to bless me so much. This book is my promise to him.

On a Dollar a Day

On a Dollar a Day PDF Author: Christopher Greenslate
Publisher: Hachette Books
ISBN: 1401395007
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 251

Book Description
What happens when two high school teachers get fed up with their soaring grocery bills and decide to try to feed themselves on one dollar each, per day? Authors Kerri Leonard and Christopher Greenslate describe how they did it -- and also include sections about eating on a little more than $4 a day, as well as on the actual costs of eating a healthy diet. On a Dollar a Day also includes fascinating facts about the way our food gets to the table and the hidden costs--both personal and financial -- along the way: How food companies "short size" packages so that you pay more for less food? Why one tablespoon of salad dressing costs as much as a whole orange? How grocery stores auction off foods past their "sell by" dates? Why processed foods have a higher markup than fresh foods? Why it takes so long for food prices to drop, even after fuel and shipping costs go down? How 36 million Americans have limited food options, even during a national obesity epidemic?
