Joeys parents are so relieved that their son didnt drown, and everybody gathers around him to keep him warm and make sure he is OK, but nobody even looks at Ruffy. Eventually he trudges back to the car park to get some food. At the same time, Joey is asking his Mum if he can keep the dog. She initially says no, but relents when she sees Joey and Ruffy looking back at each other. Then we see the elation on Joeys face as they run to each other.
