Book Description
Excerpt from A Concise Bibliography of the History, Topography, and Institutions of the Shires of Aberdeen, Banff, and Kincardine This is not a bibliography of every work of local authorship, or of all books printed within the district. Its scope is limited, as its title expresses, to a single branch of our literature. While it may prove useful to the reader and collector, the aim of the compiler has been to facilitate historical study and research by compressing for easy reference notes of as many sources of information as the space at disposal would contain. The subject lists are not exhaustive, although no important work has been omitted. All the books, unless otherwise noted, have been published in Aberdeen, and with few exceptions they may be consulted at the University Library. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in our edition. We do, however, repair the vast majority of imperfections successfully; any imperfections that remain are intentionally left to preserve the state of such historical works.

The Cruise of the Betsey; Or, A Summer Ramble Among the Fossiliferous Deposits of the Hebrides
Author: Hugh Miller
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Geologists
Languages : en
Pages : 502
Book Description
From 1840 Miller was based in Edinburgh, where he was the founding editor of "The Witness" newspaper. This is his account of his summer breaks from journalism, seeking out fossils around Scotland in all weather conditions. It was written for publication in "The Witness". He often adopts a personal and autobiographical strain in his writing, illuminating observations with anecdotes from his own experiences. His style was influenced by his favourite boyhood authors, 18th-century writers such as Addison and Pope. The preface alludes to the tragic circumstances surrounding Miller's untimely death before the first publication of this work.
