Kinetics of partial oxidation and steam reforming of methanol have been studied over a Cu-ZnO catalyst of Cu30Zn70 in a continuous-flow reactor. Rate equations and possible mechanisms are presented for both reactions. It is concluded that dissociative adsorption of methanol is the rate-determining step for either reaction. In addition, the effect of oxygen has been studied in a pulse reactor and the result confirms the rate equation for partial oxidation of methanol. [Authors' abstract].
