Multi-criteria Decision Making Methods

Multi-criteria Decision Making Methods PDF Author: Evangelos Triantaphyllou
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1475731574
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 307

Book Description
Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) has been one of the fastest growing problem areas in many disciplines. The central problem is how to evaluate a set of alternatives in terms of a number of criteria. Although this problem is very relevant in practice, there are few methods available and their quality is hard to determine. Thus, the question `Which is the best method for a given problem?' has become one of the most important and challenging ones. This is exactly what this book has as its focus and why it is important. The author extensively compares, both theoretically and empirically, real-life MCDM issues and makes the reader aware of quite a number of surprising `abnormalities' with some of these methods. What makes this book so valuable and different is that even though the analyses are rigorous, the results can be understood even by the non-specialist. Audience: Researchers, practitioners, and students; it can be used as a textbook for senior undergraduate or graduate courses in business and engineering.

Applications of Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Theories in Healthcare and Biomedical Engineering

Applications of Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Theories in Healthcare and Biomedical Engineering PDF Author: Ilker Ozsahin
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0128240873
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 334

Book Description
Applications of Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Theories in Healthcare and Biomedical Engineering contains several practical applications on how decision-making theory could be used in solving problems relating to the selection of best alternatives. The book focuses on assisting decision-makers (government, organizations, companies, general public, etc.) in making the best and most appropriate decision when confronted with multiple alternatives. The purpose of the analytical MCDM techniques is to support decision makers under uncertainty and conflicting criteria while making logical decisions. The knowledge of the alternatives of the real-life problems, properties of their parameters, and the priority given to the parameters have a great effect on consequences in decision-making. In this book, the application of MCDM has been provided for the real-life problems in health and biomedical engineering issues. Provides a comprehensive analysis and application multi-criteria decision-making methods Presents detail information about MCDM and their usage Covers state-of-the-art MCDM methods and offers applications of MCDM for health and biomedical engineering purposes

On Evaluating Curricular Effectiveness

On Evaluating Curricular Effectiveness PDF Author: National Research Council
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 0309092426
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 289

Book Description
This book reviews the evaluation research literature that has accumulated around 19 K-12 mathematics curricula and breaks new ground in framing an ambitious and rigorous approach to curriculum evaluation that has relevance beyond mathematics. The committee that produced this book consisted of mathematicians, mathematics educators, and methodologists who began with the following charge: Evaluate the quality of the evaluations of the thirteen National Science Foundation (NSF)-supported and six commercially generated mathematics curriculum materials; Determine whether the available data are sufficient for evaluating the efficacy of these materials, and if not; Develop recommendations about the design of a project that could result in the generation of more reliable and valid data for evaluating such materials. The committee collected, reviewed, and classified almost 700 studies, solicited expert testimony during two workshops, developed an evaluation framework, established dimensions/criteria for three methodologies (content analyses, comparative studies, and case studies), drew conclusions on the corpus of studies, and made recommendations for future research.

Multiple Criteria Decision Making

Book Description
The conference was organized in order to assemble a group of researchers and practitioners in the area of Multiple Criteria Decision Making. The purpose was to discuss the current state of the art with respect to both theory and practice. This conference considered such points as recent t_heoretical developments in terms of models, the behavioral aspects of multiple criteria decision making, as well as practical applications already realized and 1n progress. In addition, there was interest in the problems of implementation of multiple-criteria methods, and the interface between theory and practice, Approximately 78 participants from 15 different countries attended the conference - both theorists and practitioners. A list of participants and their addresses is found on page 411 • Because of the relatively large number of papers presented, large morning sessions followed by smaller parallel afternoon sessions were employed'. In general a discussant commented on each paper. In addition, considerable time was reserved for small-group discussion and interaction. In addition to expressing our gratitude to the participants for their enthusiastic reception and participation in the conference, we want. to thank particularly the speakers, session chairmen and discussants. We also wish to thank the C.E.S.A. and the European Institute for their support, as well as Mrs. Randee Pomerantz and Miss Dina Nagler.~oth of the E.I.A.S.M.,for their active role in the organization and arrangements for the conference, and Mrs. Jessie Goveas, E.I.A.S.M. for typing the conference proceedings.
