Book Description
The first International Symposium on Unsteady Aerodynamics and Aero elasticity of Turbomachines was held in Paris in 1976, and was followed by symposia at Lausanne in 1980, Cambridge in 1984, Aachen in 1987, Bei jing in 1989, and Notre Dame in 1991. The proceedings published following these symposia have become recognized both as basic reference texts in the subject area and as useful guides to progress in the field. It is hoped that this volume, which represents the proceedings of the Sixth International Symposium on Unsteady Aerodynamics of Turbomachines, will continue that tradition. Interest in the unsteady aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, and aeroelasticity of turbomachines has been growing rapidly since the Paris symposium. This expanded interest is reflected by a significant increase in the numbers of contributed papers and symposium participants. The timeliness of the topics has always been an essential objective of these symposia. Another important objective is to promote an international exchange between scien tists and engineers from universities, government agencies, and industry on the fascinating phenomena of unsteady turbomachine flows and how they affect the aeroelastic stability of the blading system and cause the radiation of unwanted noise. This exchange acts as a catalyst for the development of new analytical and numerical models along with carefully designed ex periments to help understand the behavior of such systems and to develop predictive tools for engineering applications.

Unsteady Flow in a Supersonic Cascade with Two In-passage Shocks

Unsteady Flow in a Supersonic Cascade with Two In-passage Shocks PDF Author: W. H. Braun
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aerodynamics, Supersonic
Languages : en
Pages : 96

Book Description
A model for a supersonic blade row with two in-passage shock waves is developed. It accounts for three-dimensional effects in real flows by using an altered blade shape in a two-dimensional cascade. There is enough flexibility in the choice of blade shape to accommodate a desired entrance angle, exit angle, boundary-layer thickness and stage pressure ratio at a given entrance Mach number. The model divides the mean flow into regions of uniform or one-dimensional flow in which the solutions for the unsteady flow may be formed successively. The analysis makes use of previous solutions for unsteady flow in cascades and over an oscillation wedge. Six flow conditions are chosen in the range of parameters for which the two-shock model is valid for studies of flutter in torsion and bending. It is found, in keeping with previous results from a single-shock model, that in each case there is increasing instability with decreasing frequency.

Analytic Solutions for Flows Through Cascades

Analytic Solutions for Flows Through Cascades PDF Author: Peter Jonathan Baddoo
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030557812
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 269

Book Description
This thesis is concerned with flows through cascades, i.e. periodic arrays of obstacles. Such geometries are relevant to a range of physical scenarios, chiefly the aerodynamics and aeroacoustics of turbomachinery flows. Despite the fact that turbomachinery is of paramount importance to a number of industries, many of the underlying mechanisms in cascade flows remain opaque. In order to clarify the function of different physical parameters, the author considers six separate problems. For example, he explores the significance of realistic blade geometries in predicting turbomachinery performance, and the possibility that porous blades can achieve noise reductions. In order to solve these challenging problems, the author deploys and indeed develops techniques from across the spectrum of complex analysis: the Wiener–Hopf method, Riemann–Hilbert problems, and the Schottky–Klein prime function all feature prominently. These sophisticated tools are then used to elucidate the underlying mathematical and physical structures present in cascade flows. The ensuing solutions greatly extend previous works and offer new avenues for future research. The results are not of simply academic value but are also useful for aircraft designers seeking to balance aeroacoustic and aerodynamic effects.

Two-Dimensional Separated Flows

Two-Dimensional Separated Flows PDF Author: S. M. Belotserkovsky
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780849393068
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 322

Book Description
Two-Dimensional Separated Flows provides a systematic presentation of the theory of separated flow around bodies. The main classes of aerodynamic problems of plane-parallel flow around bodies are described, and the steady aerodynamic, unsteady aerodynamic, and statistical characteristics of a trailing wake are determined. Numerical methods based on the synthesis of models for non-viscous incompressible flow and boundary layer, algorithms, examples, and systematic comparisons are presented. The book also includes numerical results for the problem of separated flow around fixed, oscillating, and rotating cylinders, in addition to results for separated flow around an aerofoil over a wide range of angles. Two-Dimensional Separated Flows will benefit researchers and students studying aerodynamics, aircraft dynamics, aeroelasticity, and the aerodynamics of building structures.

Unsteady Aerodynamics and Aeroelasticity of Turbomachines

Unsteady Aerodynamics and Aeroelasticity of Turbomachines PDF Author: Torsten H. Fransson
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401150400
Category : Science

Pages : 835

Book Description
Twenty-one years have passed since the first symposium in this series was held in Paris (1976). Since then there have been meetings in Lausanne (1980), Cambridge (1984), Aachen (1987), Beijing (1989), Notre Dame (1991) and Fukuoka (1994). During this period a tremendous development in the field of unsteady aerodynamics and aeroelasticity in turbomachines has taken place. As steady-state flow conditions become better known, and as blades in the turbomachine are constantly pushed towards lower weight, and higher load and efficiency, the importance of unsteady phenomena appear more clearly. th The 8 Symposium was, as the previous ones, of high quality. Furthermore, it presented the audience with the latest developments in experimental, numerical and theoretical research. More papers than ever before were submitted to the conference. As the organising committee wanted to preserve the uniqueness of the symposium by having single sessions, and thus mingle speakers and audience with different backgrounds in this interdisciplinary field, only a limited number of papers could be accepted. 54 papers were accepted and presented at the meeting, all of which are included in the present proceedings.
