Excerpt from A Brief Account of Some of the Most Important Proceedings in Parliament: Relative to the Defects in the Administration of Justice in the Court of Chancery, the House of Lords, and the Court of Commissioners of Bankrupt, Together With the Opinions of Different Statesmen and Lawyers, as to the Remedies to Be Applied The draft of an Act, prepared by the Commonwealth Law Committee in 1653, reprinted in Mr. Parkee's work from the New Edition of Lord Somers's Tracts, provided, that the Judges of the Court of Chancery should sit constantly, as well in vacation as in term, until all causes and motions in the register's books should be heard and determined; and the Judges were in all cases to pronounce their decree presently in court at the hearing, save in cases of very great difficulty, and then not to exceed ten days.
